BURBANK, Calif. – An $8 million expansion is nearing completion at the Hotel Amarano Burbank, which recently was awarded the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award. The new facilities will include 31 new guestrooms and suites, swimming pool & spa, and a luxurious 1,800-square-foot penthouse Chairman’s Suite, which will gain quick notoriety as the finest hotel suite in the Greater Los Angeles area. The project is scheduled for completion in March 2012. According to John Fitts, President and CEO of OLS Hotels & Resorts, which operates the hotel, the improvements will perpetuate the company’s tradition of constantly improving its properties to provide the best possible guest experience: “We do so much business from Los Angeles’ entertainment centers that it made sense to add a high-end suite that includes a private sundeck, al fresco dining area, spa, and fitness equipment aimed at attracting a discerning guest who desires privacy within a lavish, refined environment,” says Fitts. Cynthia Forchielli and Helen Glynn, principals in the firm of Forchielli Glynn LLC that redesigned the hotel, describe the colors, textures, and ambiance of the Chairman’s Suite as light and crisp with a distinct “California” feel. A large outside, private deck, ideal for entertaining, has a dining table for six guests and is situated inside its own cabana overlooking the porte cochere, in addition to a private, gated, outside spa, sunning area, and exercise equipment. The suite’s entryway has hardwood floors, and the living room features a wet bar with Viking wine cooler, cushy L-shaped sofa, and 50” television all situated on an area rug. The bath features the spa and walls of glass mosaic in elegant water green, and the bedroom has a four-poster bed with upholstered headboard panel. Forchielli and Glynn add that much emphasis was put on lighting, which is recessed and controlled by dimmers. The first wing of rooms inspired the design of the 31 new guestrooms, and their contemporary theme carries through with fresh, light palettes. All casegoods are on chrome bases, which evoke a sense that they are floating. The carpet mimics sea grass, and the floor coverings are Crema Marfil, a light creamy marble material. “Because the hotel has so many out-of-town guests, we felt it important for the rooms to 'feel' like California as part of an overall high-end residential ambiance,” says Glynn. In describing window treatments, Forchielli says that they will have a linen texture of soft green garden trellising. Artwork has been commissioned from local photographers for the desk area and bathrooms, and simple drawings will hang over the bed. Raffia textured walls add warmth to the room, and soft blue walls at the entry way and at the head of the bed add a pleasant counterpoint. Rooms will have 42” televisions, accessible electrical outlets over the desk, safe built into the desk, and iPod radio. Desk chairs are ergonomic, and lighting is designed for comfortable reading and work at the desk station, a part of which can function as a dining area. Bathrooms have a barn-door entry, so that the room opens up to become an entire dressing room. Fog-free mirrors are an added convenience as are large counters and frameless glass doors to the showers. The AAA Four Diamond Award winning hotel is located in the epicenter of Los Angeles’ entertainment industry at 322 North Pass Avenue in Burbank, California.
