Gemstone Hotels & Resorts to Manage Two Midway, Utah Properties
Owned by Legacy Resorts, the Zermatt Resort and Spa
and The Homestead Resort

PARK CITY, Utah.,  October 4, 2011—Officials of Gemstone Hotels & Resorts, a full-service hotel management company that specializes in luxury and upscale urban hotels and resorts, today announced the company has been contracted to manage the Zermatt Resort and Spa,  and  The Homestead Resort, both in Midway, Utah.

“These are both, beautiful, historic, year-round properties located between Park City and Sundance,” said Jeff McIntyre, principal, Gemstone Hotels & Resorts.  “These are our first assignments with owners Legacy Resorts, who purchased both properties in 2010, and we look forward to building on that relationship.  We have extensive experience and expertise in this type of asset and the mountains, and expect to achieve immediate benefits from economies of scale with our other mountain properties.”

McIntyre noted that the two contracts are part of Gemstone’s long-term strategy to build upon its existing portfolio of managed luxury hotels and resorts, while seeking out acquisition opportunities with its partner, RSR Group.

According to Steve Eddington, managing partner of the Homestead and Zermatt resorts, Gemstone will immediately begin adding a new dimension of arts, entertainment, education,  as well as health and well-being programs to the resorts’ comprehensive offerings.

Partnering with Soul Centers, a premier content provider specializing in inspirational, transformation and profound education experiences, the resorts will capitalize on the natural surroundings to offer guests distinctive and unique meeting options and vacation opportunities.

The four-diamond Zermatt Resort is located at 784 West Resort Dr. The award-winning resort was named to Expedia’s Insider’s Select list for 2010 and has won numerous Best of State Awards for the past five years.  Its inspration dates back to the mid-19th century when pioneering Swiss immigrants, Fanny and Simon Schneitter, selected the valley location because it reminded them of their home near the Matterhorn in Zermatt, Switzerland.

Today, the five year old Zermatt resort is an artistic showplace of its Swiss heritage featuring luxurious guest rooms and suites in 20 different styles, a renowned spa, indoor and outdoor pools and hot springs and award-winning dining.  Schneitter’s Restaurant, won Best of State for 2010, and Backerei + Eis, a pastry and gelato shop earned Best of State awards for the past three years. Zermatt Resort guests enjoy golf privileges at the Homestead Resort.  It’s carefully designed and purpose-built conference center, featuring 41,000 square feet of high tech meeting space, makes this one of the premiere meeting destinations in the US.

Located at 700 North Homestead Dr, the Homestead Resort is a three-diamond, three-star cottage-style resort located on 155 acres.  The resort has a 125-year history of hospitality, starting with the Schneitter’s who laid boards in the 55-foot crater that was the hot spring, and began serving Fanny’s famous chicken dinners to visitors.  The Homestead features an 18-hole championship golf course, a geothermal hot springs crater for swimming and scuba diving,  indoor and outdoor pools, bike rentals, 13,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, and two restaurants, Fanny’s Grill and Simon’s Restaurant.

Combined, the resorts (which are adjacent to each other) feature 500 units, each with their own unique personality, and offering breathtaking mountain and valley views.

“Many hotels and resorts claim a ‘history of excellence,’ noted McIntyre. “But Zermatt and Homestead are literally the cornerstones of this gorgeous community of Midway.  Their legacy of hospitality coupled with their proximity to some of the world’s best year round recreation options, are part of what makes them so popular with guests.  We look forward to building on that history with unique experiential offerings that will create a one-of-kind guest experience. ”
