The Plaza Hotel in New York Joins Historic Hotels of America®

The Program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation Recognizing
Hotels for Preserving and Maintaining Historic Integrity

NEW YORK, November 2011 – The Plaza in New York is pleased to announce it has joined Historic Hotels of America®, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The landmark Plaza Hotel is one of more than 235 hotels and resorts throughout the country that is recognized by Historic Hotels of America for preserving and maintaining its historic integrity, architecture and ambiance. The Plaza joins two existing Fairmont members, The Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston and The Fairmont San Francisco.

"The Plaza is widely recognized as being one of the most iconic luxury hotels in the United States,” said Thierry Roch, Executive Director of Historic Hotels of America. “We are honored to welcome this historic New York City  Landmark, as designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1969, and the only hotel in New York City listed as a National Historic Landmark on the National Register of Historic Places into our collection of distinguished properties.”  He continued, “It is a pleasure to introduce The Plaza’s unforgettable experiences to our Historic Hotels of America guests who seek the rich cultural and historical travel experience for which our program has become synonymous."

To be selected for membership in Historic Hotels of America, a hotel must be at least 50 years old, listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places or recognized locally as having historic significance.

“We are thrilled to be inducted into Historic Hotels of America and join such a prestigious group of iconic properties,” says Shane Krige, General Manager of The Plaza. “It is an honor for The Plaza to be a member of this respected organization, and a testament to the hotel’s commitment to preserving its rich history and iconic status.”

After a delicate and thoughtfully curated $450 million, three-year, lobby-to-roof renovation completed in 2008, The Plaza Hotel continues its tradition of defining luxury and delivering unmatched five-star service with a new contemporary spirit.  As the ultimate luxury lifestyle destination, The Plaza features 282 lavish hotel rooms, private residences, destination restaurants, an exclusive retail collection, and state-of-the-art meeting and event spaces.
