WASHINGTON,
DC - September 8, 2011 –
Statement from Roger
Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, on President
Obama's
jobs speech before a joint session of Congress: "The U.S. Travel Association strongly supports the President's proposals for investing in our nation's infrastructure. As the President stated, 'building a world-class transportation system made us an economic powerhouse,' and the travel industry facilitated that growth every step of the way. Now, with overly congested highways, long lines at airports, and a crumbling infrastructure, the travel industry again stands ready to create jobs and get America moving through increased investment in our nation's infrastructure. Additionally, there is a great opportunity to create more than a million U.S. jobs by welcoming an increased amount of international visitors to the United States. To do that, we must reform the U.S. visa system and remove barriers and delays business and leisure travelers face when traveling to America. We look forward to working with the President and Congress on putting Americans back to work." The U.S. Travel Association is the national, non-profit organization representing all components of the travel industry that generates $1.8 trillion in economic output and supports 14.1 million jobs. U.S. Travel's mission is to increase travel to and within the United States. Visit www.ustravel.org. |
