Marcus® Hotels & Resorts Makes Five Management Appointments

Milwaukee, Wis., July 6, 2011. . . . . Marcus® Hotels and Resorts today announced five management promotions. Christine Beuchert has been promoted to senior director, marketing and e-commerce strategy; Brian Burton, senior director, sales and revenue strategy; Jeannette Grayson, divisional director, human resources; Patrick Hansen, director, strategic planning and special projects and Peggy Williams-Smith, senior director, catering and event operations.

Christine Beuchert will oversee branding and marketing strategies for the company’s hotel and restaurant brands in her new role.  She previously served as corporate director of marketing, where she successfully led the company’s implementation of aggressive promotions and online distribution to increase hotel revenues during the economic downturn. Beuchert has held several other marketing and e-commerce positions since joining the company in 2004, overseeing design and development of nearly 40 websites and launching the Marcus Rewards loyalty program. Prior to joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Beuchert managed southern U.S. marketing for Funjet Vacations in Milwaukee and was involved in online distribution and web marketing for Trisept Solutions in Milwaukee. Beuchert is a founding member of both the Milwaukee New Media Business Council and the Milwaukee Interactive Marketing Association as well as a current member of TEMPO Milwaukee, the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) and InterContinental Hotels Franchise Owners group. Beuchert also has been actively involved in several non-profit organizations including the American Cancer Society, Junior Achievement, United Way and the United Performing Arts Fund. Beuchert graduated with a master’s degree in e-business from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Brian Burton will be responsible for leading the revenue management strategies for the company’s entire portfolio of 18 properties across the U.S. Burton joined Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2008 where he was instrumental in increasing the process improvement in the company’s revenue sources, resulting in record market share capture. He also developed and launched the first centralized reporting system for the company. Prior to joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Burton held various sales positions at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort, the Renaissance Chicago North Shore, New York Marriott Downtown Hotels and the New York Marriott East Side where he began his career in 1994. Burton also served as a business advisor for the American Hotel Register from 1999 to 2001. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

Jeannette Grayson will be responsible for the oversight and direction of supporting human resource directors and general managers while assisting the corporate hotel group with the development and execution of strategic initiatives. Grayson joined Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2007 as corporate training manager, where she was instrumental in developing a solid training and management development program. Prior to joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Grayson held various positions in human resources for Goodwill Industries, the Blood Center of Wisconsin and Aurora Health Care. Grayson graduated in 2008 from Marquette University with a master’s degree in human resources and received her bachelor’s degree in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.


Patrick Hansen will support special company projects as well as lead the corporate strategic planning process. He has been with the company for 15 years, most recently serving as project manager where he was responsible for overseeing a multitude of hotel renovation and capital projects in addition to directing business growth and company standard initiatives.  In 2008, he served as managing director for the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa where he received awards for best hotel marketing concept, social media and highest growth in a down economy. Hansen also served as general manager of The Westin Columbus in Columbus, Ohio, the Four Points by Sheraton Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile in Chicago, Ill., the Hilton Garden Inn Houston Northwest in Houston, Texas and the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Prior to joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Hansen spent 10 years with Marriott Hotels, Resorts and Suites. He serves as a board member for the Wisconsin DECA Foundation and St. Paul’s School in Genesee Depot, Wis. Hansen was a recent past president of the Lake Geneva Convention and Visitors Bureau, and held previous board positions for the Lake Geneva Chamber of Commerce and the Walworth County Alliance for Children. Hansen received a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Peggy Williams-Smith will be responsible for overseeing the banquet operations for the company while continuing to lead catering, convention and event services activities.  Williams-Smith has been with the company for 14 years and most recently served as corporate director, catering and events. In this role, Williams-Smith was responsible for overseeing 17 hotel catering departments as well as supervising catering budgets totaling over $17 million. She was instrumental in leading the company’s 75th anniversary celebrations and activities in 2010, resulting in charitable donations of over $150,000. Williams-Smith served in the roles of general manager for Brynwood Country Club in 2006 and senior assistant manager/director of catering for The Pfister Hotel in 2003. She joined the company in 1997 as director of catering for the Hilton Milwaukee City Center. Williams-Smith is on the Board of Directors for the American Heart Association, TEMPO Milwaukee and United Cerebral Palsy of Southeastern Wisconsin. She also volunteers her time with Junior Achievement, United Way, Best Buddies and the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF). Williams-Smith graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
