La Costa Resort & Spa, Recognized as HSMAI's 2011 Resort Marketer of the Year

MCLEAN, VA (Aug. 31, 2011) – In the presence of some of the industry’s most savvy marketers at this year’s Resort Marketing Strategy Conference, the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) named Barry Brown, regional director of sales and marketing for the Del Coronado and La Costa Resort & Spa, the 2011 Resort Marketer of the Year.  The award, presented by HSMAI and LivingSocial, was awarded to Brown for exemplifying the highest degree of excellence and commitment to the hospitality industry.

Among his many achievements, Brown infiltrated the market with creative and effective promotions and sales blitzes to successfully combat the recession and corresponding revenue threats. Brown is also an active pillar of the hospitality professional community and has been a member of the HSMAI Resort Advisory Council, as well as the HSMAI Resort Best Practices Leadership team for more than five years.

“Barry epitomizes what HSMAI and LivingSocial were looking for in this year’s Resort Marketer of the Year,” said Robert A. Gilbert, CHME, CHBA, president and CEO of HSMAI. “In addition to his professional achievements, innovative strategies and revenue generating tactics, Barry is active in the hospitality community and is viewed as a strong leader by colleagues at all career levels.”
