Steigenberger Grandhotel and Spa on the Baltic Island of Usedom Opens

May 2011 - The resort of Heringsdorf on the Baltic island of Usedom, in former times a favourite destination of German emperors and kings, has a new attraction to offer: the Wellness resort Steigenberger Grandhotel and Spa has just opened.

The opening of the first luxury resort Steigenberger Grandhotel and Spa on the Baltic island sets new standards in the Usedom hotel industry. The impressive history of the island as a popular holiday destination for discriminating guests is now set to continue.

One exceptional feature of this hotel, situated on the 10km long beach promenade, is the range of rooms available. Guests can choose between 120 rooms and suites in the Grandpalais, two "Seaside Residencies" with 40 suites, four exclusive apartments in the Villa am Meer and 23 rooms in the Villa Augusta. At the same time, five different restaurants and bars satisfy all culinary desires and there is a special Kids’ Club for the younger guests.

The Wellness philosophy
A particular highlight of the new hotel is the Baltic Sea Grand Spa, covering around 2,000 sqm. This is an exclusive Wellness area with a 20 metre outdoor pool as well as a therapeutic Vital pool that offers an effective form of balneotherapy. The area also includes a number of different saunas and steam rooms, a ladies-only sauna, a spacious Fitness area and the Spa Bistro. The Grandhotel focuses its Wellness range on a sense of individuality, in keeping with the Spa's motto of “Discover yourself - feel - and take time for yourself”. The Wellness concept is based on four key pillars: 1. In-depth consultation for spa visitors with vitality check in order to make specific treatment recommendations. 2. Exercises to regain or improve physical fitness - also available in small groups or with a personal trainer. 3. Cosmetic treatments and massages, which can have a relaxing or invigorating effect on body and soul, according to the customer's wishes. 4. The delicious and healthy cuisine of the Steigenberger Grandhotel and Spa.

Food and drink
From fine dining to the bistro on the beach promenade - the Steigenberger Grandhotel and Spa offers guests a tempting array of culinary arts in five restaurants and bars. Classic cross-over cuisine with a regional touch and a wide selection of fish and seafood dishes can be found in the fine dining "Seaside" restaurant. The main "Lilienthal" restaurant offers light, seasonal dishes while the "Waterfront" Bistro & Bar serves a selection of international bistro dishes. The menu of the "Delbrück" lobby lounge and bar contains a fine selection of drinks and in the "Hiiumaa" Spa Bistro - named after the second largest island of Estonia - light dishes and Wellness drinks are the order of the day.

The "Krabben Club" – for Kids only!
The Steigenberger Grandhotel and Spa runs its own Kids’ Club, where specially trained staff look after the younger guests. A whole building has been dedicated to the "Krabben Club". Here the children are divided according to age group and looked after through a range of activities. They never get bored thanks to the various programmes designed to appeal to the three groups of "Minis", "Big Kids" and "Teenies". Creativity and activity feature large in all the programmes offered. The cinema room regularly has film screenings and anyone wanting a quiet place and sit and read can relax in the "Chill Out" room with its small library. Story time, cooking and baking sessions and small drama performances for the proud parents complete the programme.

The hotel is operated by the Frankfurt-based hotel company Steigenberger Hotels AG. The investors and project developers are Resort Hotel Kaiserbad GmbH & Co. KG/Chamartín Meermann Immobilien AG from Berlin and ID&C International Development & Consulting from Kassel.
