Tucson, AZ (05/17/11) – The Signature Grill at JW Marriott® Starr Pass Resort & Spa is proud to announce their new Chef de Cuisine, Owen Williams. Williams, who attended Johnson & Wales University for culinary instruction, brings 16 years of food industry experience to the Signature Grill table, as well as 10 years’ experience with JW Marriott resorts. His goal is to bring more local, “signature” flavors to the table. Growing up in a Navy family and having worked with JW Marriott for years, Williams has done quite a bit of traveling, living and working in such locales as Japan, Spain, Germany, St. Thomas, Washington D.C. and more. His first experience working in Tucson was 10 years ago, when he “fell in love with the area and the food” while working briefly at the Arizona Inn and Janos restaurant. Because of this Tucson experience, and having family in the area, Williams jumped at the opportunity to join the Starr Pass team at Signature Grill. He arrived in Tucson this spring after working for the 1,000-room JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, where he served as Senior Supervisor in charge of lunch and dinner at a new three-meal-a-day restaurant. Now settled in Tucson, Williams said he is focusing on bringing distinctly local flavors back to the Signature Grill menu, making sure the restaurant stays true to the food in the area. He said he wants to “create a menu that says ‘you’re in Tucson, you’re in the Sonoran Desert,’ not a generic menu you’d find at any resort.” He also said he wants to include “cowboy, Native American and Mexican influences,” and added that the local staff even contributes family recipes, bringing authenticity to the menu. Guests will start experiencing the new chef’s menu this week at Signature Grill. The menu will continue to change with the seasons, as usual. Signature Grill will also continue to offer an extensive wine menu, plus weekly wine classes with their sommeliers every Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm in the Signature Grill Private Dining Room.
