Milwaukee, Wis., May 25, 2011
. . . . .Marcus® Hotels & Resorts today announced that Chris Anderson has been promoted to senior vice president, sales, marketing and brand development.  Anderson previously served as vice president, sales, marketing and revenue strategy.

In his new position, Anderson will focus on the growth and breadth of the company’s hotel, resort and restaurant brands, while continuing to oversee the sales and marketing function.  He will seek to develop new concepts that will enhance and differentiate the current offerings of Marcus Hotels & Resorts.

“The economy has changed the way people travel, how they buy, and what they come to expect from the venues they choose.  These changes are the roadmap of the future, and it is important that Marcus Hotels & Resorts stays in front of these changes to ensure our value proposition remains competitive.  With his extensive industry experience and prior success with our company, Chris is ideally suited to assume this responsibility,” said Bill Otto, president of Marcus Hotels & Resorts.

Anderson joined Marcus Hotels & Resorts in 2007 as vice president, sales.  He was promoted to vice president, sales, marketing and revenue strategy in 2009.  In this position, his responsibilities included establishing corporate revenue strategy and marketing teams focused on developing growth strategies that maximized all revenue channels, establishing a regional call center and developing overall brand strategies for the company’s hotels, restaurants, spas, golf courses and snow sports.

Prior to joining Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Anderson spent 16 years with Marriott International. Most recently, he led the sales and marketing efforts at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, the largest hotel in Georgia.  Some of his achievements included managing all aspects of the sales team for the 1,675 room convention hotel, managing the e-commerce, marketing communications and public relations teams, and executing a re-branding plan alongside a $138 million dollar renovation of the hotel.  He began his career at Marriott’s Tan-Tar-A resort in the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, in 1993, working in convention service and sales. He later became a director of national accounts and director of sales for the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel and Marina in Tampa, Florida.

In addition to his work at Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Anderson holds various committee positions with the Wisconsin Department of Tourism’s meetings and convention marketing task force, Milwaukee Convention Visitors Bureau marketing committee (Visit Milwaukee) and InterContinental Hotel Group. He has facilitated education and speaking engagements at the Governors Conference of Tourism, National Business Travel Association and Meeting Planners International.  Anderson’s favorite charity is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor sports with his two young boys and gardening and landscaping with his wife Carrie.

Anderson graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in political science and minors in marketing and economics.
