Consulting Services to
Represent AHLEI in Canada
Orlando, Florida, June 2011—The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) has announced an agreement with Calvin Purcell of Purcell Consulting Services to promote and sell AHLEI’s hospitality training and educational resources, including professional certification, DVDs, and textbooks throughout the Canadian hospitality market. Purcell, who lives in Chilliwack, British Columbia, has worked in the education industry with Sprott-Shaw Community College for more 17 years, most recently as the college’s Executive Vice President. He was responsible for all government relations, program development, and new business development, including the management of CIBT’s AHLEI master licensee contract for China. Purcell has served on numerous regulatory committees, industry groups, and trade associations. His professional network spans North America, the Caribbean, and China. According to the Hotel Association of Canada, the $70 billion travel and tourism industry employs 649,000 people across Canada with the lodging sector alone generating $17.5 billion in revenue and employing 320,000 persons. While the Educational Institute has long worked with Canadian post-secondary schools that teach hospitality, the industry market has been largely untapped. Purcell’s experience and contacts make him a valuable resource as AHLEI’s presence in that country. “In order to remain competitive in this growing industry, employers need to be confident that the employees they hire are well trained, certified industry professionals,” said Purcell. “The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute’s expertise and history in this industry give employers this confidence!” About American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institution Established in 1953 as a nonprofit educational foundation of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, the Educational Institute’s mission is to support AH&LA by becoming the preferred provider to the lodging industry, hospitality schools, and related hospitality industries both domestically and internationally by developing and providing quality resources to train, educate, and certify hospitality professionals. |
