Hyatt Hotels Appoints Sal Mendoza to Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion

CHICAGO (March 9, 2011) – Hyatt Hotels & Resorts today announced that Sal Mendoza has been named Vice President of Global Diversity and Inclusion, reporting to Robb Webb, Chief Human Resources Officer.

In this newly created position, Mendoza will be responsible for the development of a core global framework for Hyatt that enhances the company’s diverse and inclusive workplace and focuses on strategies that can be implemented locally by colleagues around the world.

“I am delighted to appoint Sal to this new position,” said Robb Webb, Chief Human Resources Officer. “With his guidance, we’ve made great strides in our commitment to diversity and inclusion, which have been widely recognized through many credible awards and accolades. In this new role, Sal’s global perspective and expertise will help us work across several functions to build a successful diversity and inclusion strategy and implementation plan that will distinguish us as a preferred brand for our associates, guests and owners.”

Since joining Hyatt in 1997, Mendoza has worked to integrate Hyatt’s commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion with all aspects of business in North America including recruitment, sales and marketing, employee relations, supply chain, and hotel development. Mendoza has also represented Hyatt on the board of several organizations, including the National Hispanic Corporate Council, the American Hotel & Lodging Foundation Board of Trustees, and the Global Diversity & Inclusion Foundation Board of Trustees.

Hyatt has received many awards under Mendoza’s tenure. This recognition includes Fortune Magazine’s Top 50 Places for Minorities to Work, Black Collegian Magazine’s Top 100 Employer, Latina Style Magazine’s Best Companies for Latinas, DiversityInc’s 25 Noteworthy Companies, the Association of Diversity Council’s 2011 Diversity Council Honors Award, Human Right Campaign’s 100% Equality Index, Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality for seven consecutive years, and many more.

Mendoza holds a Bachelor of Science from Chicago State University and a Master of Science from Governors State University. Throughout his education and career, Mendoza has been personally recognized with the Black Meetings & Tourism APEX Award for Distinguished Service, Hispanic Business Magazine’s 100 Most Influential Hispanics, the Hands On Education Services Disability Champion Award, and Chicago State University’s Latino Alumni Award.
