News for the Hospitality Executive
Calgary, Alberta, March 1, 2011 – Groupe Germain Co-President Mme. Christiane Germain announces the appointment of Lionel Houliat as Hôtel Le Germain Calgary General Manager, effective immediately.
"Known for its vibrant economic climate, topsy-turvy weather patterns and heartwarming white-hat hospitality, Calgary is both important and unique in Canada as a business and leisure travel destination," says Germain. "We diligently sought a leader who shines with a global view, profound professional experience at the highest level, and a heart for service to step into this senior post. Lionel will readily fit into this dynamic and exciting city and into its newest hotel. We are delighted to introduce him into this executive capacity within our company."
With two decades of international experience at five-star hotels and resorts, Lionel was most recently General Manager for Sofitel Luxury Hotels in China. Tracing this discerning and accomplished hospitality leader’s hotel and restaurant management career, further highlights include:
An early start in management as assistant restaurant director of the Four Seasons Hotel, Montreal.
Extensive experience at highly visible properties including eight with Five-Star designation and three with Five-Star Diamond ratings: Hotel Mulia in Jakarta; Kempinski Hotel Baltschug in Moscow; and Hotel des Bergues in Geneva.
With Canadian, French and Swiss heritage, Lionel is fluently bilingual in English and French.
Lionel began his hotel-management career after receiving a Diploma in Hotel Business Management from the Institut de Tourisme et d’Hôtellerie du Québec in 1988. In 1991, he furthered his hospitality management study.
