October 20, 2010 --An investment group headed by a New Jersey caterer has acquired the closed Pocmont Resort in Bushkill for $2 million.

FNCB Realty, a division of First National Community Bank of Dunmore, sold the 155-acre property to Pocmont Properties LLC, according to a deed transfer filed recently at the Pike County Courthouse.

Pocmont, which closed in November for repairs and never reopened, will re-emerge as a vacation spot, according to the auctioneer who sold the property.

"Their plan is to continue it as a resort," said John Cowley, owner of Cowley Real Estate Auctions in Scranton. "They've just got to get the right management in there and appeal to the right market."

The ownership group is headed by Isaac Greenwald, a Lakewood, N.J., caterer, Mr. Cowley said. Efforts to reach Mr. Greenwald were unsuccessful on Tuesday.

The resort's former owners deeded the property to First National Community Bank last December to prevent foreclosure, Pike County records show.

The bank planned an auction in April for the 160-room resort at a minimum bid of $3.5 million, Mr. Cowley said, but Mr. Greenwald's group came forward to initiate negotiations before the public sale occurred.

The resort, which once employed 175 people in peak season, includes a dining room with a seating capacity of 400, a theater, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a fitness center, tennis courts and hiking trails.

Pocmont, which was operated by the Artzt family for more than 60 years, was destroyed by fire in 1996 and rebuilt in 1998.
