Ronald D. Vlasic Elected Incoming AH&LA Secretary/Treasurer

Kimpton Executive to be Association Chair in 2013

New York, NY, November 15, 2010 – The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) has elected Ron Vlasic, regional vice president of hotels, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, as incoming secretary/treasurer of the board of directors.  An AH&LA member since 1999, Vlasic will serve as association chair in 2013.

Vlasic joined Kimpton in 1999 as general manager of its historic Sir Francis Drake Hotel, located in the Union Square District of San Francisco.  His transfer in 2001 to Chicago gave him the opportunity to oversee the three Kimpton Hotels in Chicago, as well as develop a fourth hotel in the city.  In his current role, Vlasic provides operational support to Kimpton’s properties in the Midwest, Mountain states, and Pacific Northwest, and acts as the liaison between the various hotel ownership groups and the Kimpton home office.   Under his initiative and direction, a number of unique programs and partnerships have been launched and are flourishing at the hotels within his region.  Prior to joining Kimpton, Vlasic was general manager for nearly 10 years at a number of historic four-star boutique hotels for Grand Heritage Hotels International.

Vlasic also serves on a number of boards to better improve the lodging industry, including the 2010 AH&LA board of directors; 2010 Executive Committee member for the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation; 2010 Executive Committee member of the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association and treasurer of its Educational Foundation; Committee co-chair for Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association’s Environmental Program; former chairman of the board of the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association; and 2009/10 board member of the Chicago Visitors & Convention Bureau.

Vlasic was the 2010 recipient of the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association’s Ambassador of Hospitality Award; recipient of both the Bill Kimpton Chairman’s Award and the Kimpton Leadership Award; and recipient of Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association’s Hotelier of the Year Award and Illinois State Leadership Award.

“Ron has been instrumental in supporting the development and advancement of young professionals via AH&LA’s Under 30 Gateway initiative,” said AH&LA President/CEO Joseph A. McInerney, CHA. “As an active AH&LA member, I’m eager to have his expertise and insight at the executive level as we take on the association’s next 100 years.”

2011 AH&LA officers include Chair John Campbell, general manager of the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, La Jolla, California; Vice Chair Nancy Johnson, executive vice president and chief development officer for Carlson Hotels Worldwide – the Americas, Carlson Hotels Worldwide; and Immediate Past Chair David Kong, president/CEO of Best Western International.  These hoteliers are led by AH&LA President/CEO Joseph A.
