September 23, 2010 --The Omni Detroit Hotel at River Place will close on Oct. 12 but may reopen under a new name and new ownership sometime in the future. Caryn Kboudi, a vice president at Omni Hotel's headquarters in Dallas, said today the company was closing the hotel but was talking with a number of interested buyers for the 108-room boutique property on Detroit's east riverfront. Since it opened in the late 1980s as the River Place Inn, the small hotel has been through several name changes and changes of ownership. Kboudi said the company was working aggressively to help the hotel's fewer than 100 employees find new jobs in the area.
