Aug. 07, 2010--There's an almost playful tone about the new SpringHill Suites by Marriott.

The check-in desk curves into a semi-circle against a backdrop of big bubbles appearing to float across a blue wall. Sheer curtains and strands of beads enfold the tables and chairs where guests will eat complimentary breakfasts.

"It's very chic and modern," said general manager Donna Beall. "You feel you've been transported into another area, so to speak. It's very fun and exciting."

The new, 121-suite hotel opens Tuesday just off Riverside Drive at Interstate 75. It's owned by Warner Robins-based Peach State Hospitality and managed by Marriott International.

The product and Marriott name will be huge selling points, said Danny Patel, Peach State Hospitality founder and CEO, who described the hotel as a "lifestyle brand."

"The brand is designed to attract the younger generation," Patel said. "This is a unique product. This is not a typical hotel."

Among the hotel's fun features are an indoor saltwater swimming pool and a fitness room with state-of-the-art LifeFitness equipment, including treadmills, elliptical machines and recumbent bikes with individual televisions. The hotel's proximity to The Shoppes at River Crossing and nearby restaurants also is a plus for leisure travelers, said Beall.

"I think the two complement each other well. I think our guests will definitely enjoy the shopping and the surrounding area." The hotel also has kept the business traveler in mind, as well.

Each suite includes a work area with a large desk, ergonomic chair, two phone lines and voice mail.

Each room also has Internet access, and free Wi-Fi is offered in the lobby. The hotel has 1,300 square feet of meeting space, same-day dry cleaning and guest laundry facilities. Hot breakfast is complimentary.

A company news release describes the new hotel as "the perfect place to sink into a good night's sleep."

Friday, while crews were doing final construction, hotel staffers were in training sessions.

As a worker pressure-washed the parking lot, a staff member washed windows in the pool area.

The hotel will employ 20 people, Beall said.

Rates begin at $109 per night on weekends and $139 per night during the week, according to the company news release.
