Los Cabos, Mexico (Aug. 23, 2010) – The Westin Resort & Spa, Los Cabos has named Andy Venkatesan executive chef in charge of food and beverage. As executive chef, he will manage aspects of the resort’s food and beverage operations, including food production, menu planning and new recipe development, as well as oversee a kitchen and front of house staff of 70 professionals. In addition to events and room service, he is responsible for directing the resort’s award-winning restaurant operations, including its AAA Four Diamond fine dining restaurant, Arrecifes.
In an effort to always offer something new and exciting, Venkatesan’s first triumph was to create an Indian food fest featuring cuisine from Fahim Khan, chef at the famed Mexico City restaurant Dawat, for the first time in Los Cabos.
“Andy has jumped into the frying pan, creating innovative dishes and food and beverage events that thrill our guests,” said Pablo Flores, general manager of the Westin Resort & Spa, Los Cabos. “We had a great time with the Festival Gastronomico de la India, and are excited about what flavors and festivities Andy will bring to the table next to please our guests’ discerning palates.”
For more than 20 years, Venkatesan has worked across Mexico and around the world, including at luxury resorts in Australia, Cuba, India and Uruguay, as well as on ships based out of Miami with Carnival Cruise Lines. He comes to the Westin Resort & Spa, Los Cabos from the Nikko Hotel in Dalian, China, where he served as food and beverage director. Venkatesan has also previously been a part of the Starwood Hotels family, working as executive chef at the El Careyes Beach Resort and the El Tamarindo Beach & Golf Resort, both located in Jalisco.
An Indian national and citizen of Australia, Venkatesan graduated from the hotel management program at the Institute of Hotel Management in Madras, India.
