KANSAS CITY, MO: January 2010 - Key
Construction announced today that it built eleven new hotels in 2009,
despite a dramatic slowdown in construction starts industry wide.
Key built the hotels for a number of major brands in seven different
states.
"Most of the hotels we built last year were Select Service, Limited
Service, and Extended Stay flags, which reflects most of the current
hotel development activity nationwide," said Brad Wilson, Vice
President of Key Construction's Hospitality Division, which builds most
of Key's hotels. "Our ability to handle multiple projects in
multiple locations allows us to travel with our clients as they look
outside of traditional regions to find viable markets."
Among the hotels Key completed in 2009 are Residence Inn (2), Fairfield
Inn (2), Springhill Suites, Hampton Inn, NYLO, Suburban Extended Stay,
and Value Place (3).
According to Wilson, the outlook for 2010 remains bright. "We
currently have nine hotels under construction and expect a few more to
start soon," Wilson added. "As some of our clients have slowed
down, we've been fortunate to uncover new opportunities as Hoteliers
take advantage of low construction costs." Projects currently
under construction include Hampton Inn (3), Four Points by Sheraton,
Holiday Inn, Aloft, Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, and a Holiday Inn Express.
Wilson believes that as the lending environment remains tight, lenders
will look more favorably on bondable contractors with demonstrated
hotel experience.
