Hotel Concepts Preparing to Open 132-room Fairfield Inn and Suites
in Bremerton, Washington

Jan. 4, 2010--BREMERTON -- Guests could be staying in the newest addition to Bremerton's changing skyline by mid-February.

Developers hope to open downtown Bremerton's newest hotel, Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott, sometime in mid- or late-February.

The 132-room hotel occupies the land along Fourth Street where the former Bremerton City Hall was located.

The hotel is being developed by Hotel Concepts, which owns the Fairfield as well as the Hampton Inn and Suites down the street. Hotel Concepts principal Han Kim expects military business to keep the hotels busy despite the down economy.

He also expects the new property to dovetail with the Kitsap Conference Center.

"Hopefully we'll be contributing to the success of the conference center," he said.

As much as 80 percent of business at the 105-room Hampton Inn comes from government workers, he said.

"We are pretty optimistic because of the base," he said.

With 132 more rooms -- some traditional rooms and some suites designed for longer stays -- Kim expects the Fairfield to benefit from conference center guests who want more space.

"We've been waiting patiently for it," conference center general manager Terry Halvorson said.

The additional rooms means the center can book longer-term events and larger events, she said.

They've turned away conferences before because there weren't enough rooms nearby. Hotels within walking distance can be a deal breaker for some event planners.

"That's huge to meeting planners," she said.

The Fairfield also has 4,500 square feet of retail space that it's looking to rent, Kim said.

"A restaurant would be great," he said.
