Jan. 10, 2010--VALDOSTA -- Comfort Inn on West Hill Avenue is now Clarion Inn Conference Center.
The transition occurred about two weeks ago and was an effort by the Choice Hotels group to offer a more upscale service to those passing through the area, as well as those stopping for a visit.
Making the transformation from a Comfort Inn to a Clarion Inn took one year, said General Manager Howard Tessin. It required the addition of a fitness room, a business center, new -- and higher quality -- bed linens and towels, a breakfast and a 32-inch flat-screen television in every room.
The Clarion Inn has 137 newly renovated rooms, including a Presidential and five Deluxe suites.
Tessin noted that, thus far, his guests have been quite happy with the changes.
The Choice Hotels group describes its Clarion Inn brand as "engaging, but unpretentious." They said it offers a quality of service, amenities and inviting atmosphere associated with finer hotels, but at an affordable price.
The new Clarion Inn was originally constructed in 1965 as a Sheraton hotel. It became a Comfort Inn in 1991.
Clarion Inn has several separate buildings, a huge outdoor pool, a spacious outdoor area for the kids to play, and a picnic area.
"This is the only property," Tessin said, "that has an enclosed picnic pavilion," something his guests truly enjoy during the summer months.
He went on to note that the new Clarion Inn kept many of the features the Comfort Inn had, such as ergonomic office and leisure chairs and package deals with Kinderlou Forest and Wild Adventures Theme Park, and pointed out that Austin's Cattle Company remains something guests enjoy.
Microwaves, refrigerators, hair dryers, irons and ironing boards, volleyball courts and free wireless high-speed Internet are among Clarion Inn's many amenities.
"A warm welcome and a friendly smile await each guest at the Clarion Inn Conference Center," noted its Web site (www.clarioninnvaldosta.com). "We provide lodging minutes from wonderful family attractions like Wild Adventures Theme Park, Splash Island, Ocean Adventures and Kinderlou Forest Golf Club. Conveniently located just off Exit 16 of I-75, the Clarion Inn Conference Center is ideally situated to meet the needs of both the leisure and business traveler alike."
Clarion Inn is locally franchised by the Langdale Company.
