As Holidays Near, Domestic Hotel Rates Drop While International Rates Increase.

December 10, 2009 - SOUTHLAKE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Travelocity’s most recent data for hotel rooms booked over the holidays (December 20, 2009 – January 3, 2010) shows average daily rates have been falling as the popular vacation period nears. A week-by-week analysis shows that over a 14 week period ending November 28, overall ADR has dropped from $181 per night to $150 per night.

“During a period when hotel prices are typically at their highest, rates have shown a steady decline, but they may not go much lower,” said Genevieve Shaw Brown, Travelocity senior editor.

However, while domestic hotel rates are declining, international hotel rates are rising as the holiday season approaches. Though domestic and international hotel rates for the aforementioned check-in dates were similar in late August ($181 per night and $182 per night, respectively) domestic rates have fallen to an average of $131 per night and international hotel rates have risen to $203 per night.

“The best deals for the December holidays are found stateside,” said Genevieve Shaw Brown, Travelocity’s senior editor. “Factor in rising airfare for the holidays and it’s clear the best deals may be those closer to home.”

Domestic rates are lower year over year, while international rates are slightly higher. As of the end of November 2008, domestic rates for the holiday period were about $10 more per night, while international rates were about $3 less.
