The Green Team Promotes Hospitality Education

Helps Position Kirkwood Community College's New Hotel and
Sponsors 2009 Middle Tennessee Hospitality Championship Series

Nashville TN (December 14, 2009) - The Green Team, Inc., hospitality services experts headquartered in Nashville, completed two projects in November that underscore their commitment to the industry, especially the area of hospitality education.

On November 10, Mike Green, President, participated in the "topping off" ceremony to mark the completion of the framing of the new hotel on the campus of Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Hotel at Kirkwood Center is a 71-room full-service hotel set to open in July 2010 that gives students in the college's hospitality program hands-on experience in managing guest services, restaurants and meeting/function space. Built as an on-campus teaching laboratory for the college's hotel and culinary students, the college sought The Green Team's expertise in "turn-key" pre-opening marketing, sales and operational support, along with e-services. More than 500 guests from the local business community attended the event for which all arrangements, including the catering, were prepared exclusively by students from the hospitality program.

At the end of that same week, Lissa Hagewood, Vice-President of Operations, represented The Green Team as the exclusive hospitality services Sponsor of The 3rd Annual Middle Tennessee Hospitality Championship. Dozens of employee teams from Nashville-area hotels and restaurants participated, helping the event raise funds to benefit the Tennessee Hospitality Education Foundation. Since its inception in 2007, the Championship Series has raised over $35,000, thanks to the competitive spirit and skill of the teams joining such events as Bednastics, Bell Cart Wheelie, Dress for Success, "Some Assembly Required," The Culinary Exhibition and The Towel Folding Competition and "Are You Smarter than a General Manager?".

"The teams practiced their skills for months in advance to prepare for the Championship," said Green. "While all the winners receive medals and bragging rights, the funds raised by the event go to support six Hospitality Academies that are being developed through Nashville Metro Education with the encouragement of the Greater Nashville Hotel & Lodging Association (GNHLA) and the Tennessee Hospitality Association (THA). The Education Committee has created a scholarship fund for Tennessee college students pursuing careers in the hospitality industry, is supporting the growth of a local hospitality student organization and is working on the development of special needs programs in the hospitality industry."

"We believe the key to a better future in our industry is investing in education. The Green Team became the exclusive hospitality services industry sponsor of this event at its start in 2007 and continues to be exceptionally proud of the efforts made by the hospitality industry, the GNH&LA and the THA in Middle Tennessee to promote education and job development in our sector.

"These two projects are representative of the ways our company supports the students who will move hospitality management - our area of expertise - to new levels of achievement. It's great to see what the educators and professional organizations are doing to help pave the way for the real rising stars of our industry."
