Foxwoods' MGM Grand Hotel Gets Rare Four Diamond Award From AAA

The Hartford Courant, Conn.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News

Sep. 1, 2009--The financially troubled owners of Foxwoods Resort Casino recently got a little good news -- AAA has bestowed its rare Four Diamond Award on The Mashantucket Pequots' MGM Grand at Foxwoods hotel.

About three percent of all hotels rated by AAA inspectors get the designation, used to indicate that an establishment is "upscale in all areas" and offers extensive amenities with "a high degree of hospitality, service and attention to detail," according to the automobile club.

One of three hotels operated by the Pequots, MGM Grand at Foxwoods opened in May 2008. It has 825 guest rooms and suites in a 30-story tower. Foxwoods' Grand Pequot Tower hotel has received the Four Diamond Award for seven years in a row.

The Pequots are trying to renegotiate a staggering debt load with creditors, and some credit rating agencies have recently downgraded the tribe's creditworthiness.

AAA also offers a five-star rating, which signifies "ultimate in luxury and sophistication." Hotels must apply for evaluation.
