 Educational Institute Hosts Celebration of Excellence Breakfast
to Honor Hospitality Industry Leaders


Peter Greenberg, “America’s Travel Expert,” Slated to Give Keynote

ORLANDO, Florida, September 2009—The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) will host its Celebration of Excellence Breakfast honoring the 2009 recipients of the Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) Emeritus and Master Hotel Supplier (MHS) Emeritus designations on Monday, November 9, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., at the Jacob Javits Center, during the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show in New York.

The CHA Emeritus and MHS Emeritus are awarded in recognition of the recipients’ long and illustrious careers in the hospitality industry.

The career of an Emeritus is marked by distinguished achievement in all facets of the industry, signifying a commitment to the past, present, and future of the hospitality environment. Those so honored have played a unique role in shaping the industry’s current environment and are widely recognized as role models by their industry peers.

This year’s honorees for CHA Emeritus are:
  • Caroline Cooper, CHA, Professor, Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School and former dean of the Hospitality College, Johnson & Wales University
  • Pedro Mandoki, CHA, Chairman and CEO, Mandoki Hospitality Group
  • Richard C. Nelson, CHA, Vice President Emeritus, Hyatt Hotels
  • Paul O’Neil, CHA, Chief Operating Officer, Kerzner International
This year’s honorees for MHS Emeritus are:
  • Kerry Hirschy, MHS, Senior Vice President, Kaba Lodging Systems
  • Stanley Turkel, MHS,  ISHC, Hotel and Franchise Consultant

The Celebration of Excellence Breakfast, sponsored by American Express and Heartland Payment Systems, will feature a keynote address by Peter Greenberg, America’s most recognized, honored, and respected front-line travel news journalist. Travel Weekly recently named Greenberg one of the most influential people in the travel industry. He is host of the nationally-syndicated Peter Greenberg Worldwide Radio show; travel editor at large for AARP; contributing editor for Men’s Health magazine; and contributor to The New Yorker, Parade, ForbesTraveler.com, and MSN.com.  For seven years, he was travel correspondent for ABC’s Good Morning America, followed by 14 years as travel editor for NBC’s Today Show, CNBC, and MSNBC.  He is the author of several best-selling books.

His latest, Tough Times, Great Travels, offers his expert advice and insight on how to travel efficiently—and well—during tough economic times.
