Spice Island Beach Resort, Grenada, Welcomes Paul Owens as New Executive Chef

GRENADA (Aug 4, 2009) - The fully-inclusive Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada (www.SpiceIslandBeachResort.com) has appointed Paul Owens, an expert in managing a culinary staff at luxury properties, as the new Executive Chef.

"Owens has served at top-quality establishments since 2000, and we are confident his experience and expertise will take our restaurants to a whole new level of culinary delight," said Sir Royston O. Hopkin, KCMG, owner and chairman of Spice Island Beach Resort.

Owens brings an elaborate background of training and culinary knowledge from various establishments in England including the Bedford Lodge Hotel in Suffolk, Owens Bar & Restaurant in Southport, Ty Mawr Mansion in Aeron Valley, Swinton Park in Yorkshire, Number 64 in Staffordshire and Gisborough Hall in Guisborough.  He earned two AA rosettes, an award given to chefs who display innovation, greater technical skills, and consistency in combining and balancing ingredients, while employed as executive chef at these establishments.  Owens was born in England and trained at the Youth Training Scheme (Y.T.S.).

Dining at Spice - regardless of the meal or time of day - is distinctively Grenadian, from the cuisine and island setting to the warm hospitality of the people.  Spice encourages the restaurant team to pay attention to even the smallest of details.  From the instant guests are seated, to the moment they leave the restaurant, the dining experience is nothing short of perfect.

Since Grenada is the "Isle of Spice," the resort maintains an extensive herb garden with basil, seasoning peppers, rosemary, "shadow benny" (the island's local cilantro) and "big leaf thyme" (marjoram), which is used to enhance many of the dishes.

Spice's cuisine is as exceptional as the locations where it is served.  Breakfast and dinner are presented in Oliver's, Spice's open-air, beachfront restaurant, affording spectacular Caribbean vistas.  Lunch is available in the Sea & Surf Terrace, another beachside venue providing sea views.  For more intimate dining, room service is offered from 7:45 a.m. - 10 p.m.
