  American Hotel & Lodging Association Fall Conference Offers
Educational Programming, Networking Events, Specialized Committee Meetings

 

Marks Official Kick-Off of AH&LA’s Year-Long Centennial Celebration



Washington, D.C., August 26, 2009 — The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) 2009 Fall Conference, November 6-10, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, is held in conjunction with the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show® (IH/M&RS) and a one-day AH&LA Hospitality Leadership Forum.  Highlights of the annual Fall Conference events include:
 
The AH&LA Hospitality Leadership Forum on Saturday, November 7, features speakers from across the industry offering both well-rounded and niche perspectives on their respective fields and discussing the factors shaping the future of lodging via a CEO leadership panel, a lodging industry panel, and various seminars. 
 
The invitation-only Incoming Chairman’s Reception hosted by the AH&LA HotelPAC, on Saturday, November 7, at The InterContinental The Barclay New York, brings hoteliers and allied members together to support the industry’s only political action committee which helps elect members of Congress who support the lodging community.
 
Sunday, November 8, is opening night for a year-long celebration of the association’s history.  The AH&LA Centennial Celebration and Inaugural Gala honoring David Kong, president, Best Western International, and incoming AH&LA chairman, will be held at The Waldorf=Astoria Hotel and will feature dinner, dancing, and special appearances by industry icons.
 
Opening online in mid-October and closing Tuesday, November 10 at 3:00 p.m., the Big Apple Silent Auction supports the initiatives of American Hotel & Lodging Foundation.  Bid on more than 200 prize items including high-end merchandise, deluxe vacation packages, and more both in-person at the Javits Center or online at www.ahlef.org.
 
On Monday, November 10, the AH&LEI Celebration of Excellence Breakfast features keynote speaker and noted travel writer Peter Greenberg, and recognizes individuals who have achieved Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) or Master Hotel Supplier (MHS) certifications, as well as those chosen for Emeritus status.
 
Now in its 94th year, the IH/M&RS is sponsored by AH&LA; the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association, Inc.; and the Hotel Association of New York City, Inc.  The trade show, which attracts more than 30,000 attendees, features more than 1,000 exhibiting companies and a comprehensive lineup of educational programs covering every operational aspect including technology, design, foodservice, and human resources.  Specialty programming features Founding Publisher of PINK Genevieve Bos, courtesy of the AH&LA Women in Lodging Connect; a panel of top-level hotel executives providing candid advice and solutions on how to change selling tactics to remain competitive, courtesy of the AH&LA Allied Executive Council; and the AH&LA Under 30 Gateway’s popular bootcamp, which provides several career development tracks to hospitality professionals under age 30, as well as a networking reception.
