with Marriott's Select Service Opening Hotel of the Year Award

Tampa, Florida is pleased to announce that the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Tampa
Westshore/Airport has been selected by Marriott International as
the Opening Hotel
of the Year at the recent 2009 Marriott Select Service Hotel
Owner’s Conference, held in Orlando, Florida. Opened in June 2008, the 122-suite property is located at Avion Park Westshore, the colorful new mixed-use development located across the street from Tampa International Airport, at the corner of Spruce and O’Brien Streets. Marriott recognized the property for its unique style, including non-prototypical architecture, inviting earth tone palette and spectacular 100 foot long curving lap pool. The property was designed by Lindsay Pope Brayfield & Associates of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Additionally, McKibbon’s construction and opening team was recognized as a critical component for the success of the project. Vice President of Construction Erik Rowen was instrumental in completing the hotel’s construction on-schedule, through a close partnership with general contractor Kellogg & Kimsey, Inc. of Sarasota, Florida. The hotel was opened with zero attachments, meaning that no corrections were necessary, thanks to an experienced opening team, led by Karl Oates, Director of Operations Support, Heather Reinholtz, Director of Hotel Openings & E-Commerce Sales and Abel Bohorquez, General Manager of the property. Geared toward the mid-priced extended stay business traveler and weekend leisure segment, the TownePlace Suites Tampa Westshore/Airport has experienced steady occupancy rates since opening, despite the downturn in the economy.  “We have been very pleased with the ramp-up that this hotel
