Chef Gray Kunz to Open Café Gray Deluxe
at Hong Kong's The Upper House
.

(Hong Kong, May 20, 2009) - After receiving numerous accolades in New York, Chef Gray Kunz returns to Hong Kong to open Café Gray Deluxe at The Upper House, a small intimate hotel managed and operated by Swire Hotels, in October 2009.

The "21st century grand café" overlooks Victoria Harbor from the 49th rooftop floor of the hotel at Pacific Place in Admiralty, and will be a long-awaited dynamic addition to the Hong Kong restaurant scene.

Gray Kunz first came to the attention of Hong Kong gourmets in the 1980s, heading the iconic Plume restaurant at The Regent. Over the past 20 years in New York, he has been acclaimed as one of America's most outstanding and celebrated chefs - earning a maximum four stars by the New York Times at Lespinasse and awarded a Michelin star at Café Gray in the Time Warner Center.

At Café Gray Deluxe, Gray Kunz has adapted his lifetime's experience leading the very finest kitchens in Europe, Asia and America to create an energetic and gourmet café in one of the city's most spectacular locations. His cuisine is a departure from traditional fine dining to "everyday dishes" with an accent on local organic produce and relaxed service.

"Returning to Hong Kong, where people have a passion for high quality cuisine, is a dream come true for me," said Chef Kunz. "The understated luxury and spectacular views of Café Gray Deluxe offer a dramatic backdrop for the exciting interpretations of classic European cuisine that we will serve. Our menu will be infused with the freshest ingredients, organic meats, exotic delicacies, and new ideas from the heartland of America to the food capitals of Europe, to the islands of Asia."

The contemporary interior design of Café Gray Deluxe with breathtaking harbor views and double height ceilings creates an energetic dining space. The seductive bar and lounge is highlighted by a 46 foot long bar, symmetrical with an open kitchen feature.

"Gray Kunz is renowned as one of the world's greatest chefs and his return to Hong Kong is highly anticipated. We are thrilled to have him as our partner and are confident Café Gray Deluxe will complement the hotel's unique style, as well as enhance the area's vibrant dining scene," said Dean Winter, general manager of The Upper House.
