New Technology on TAP for Savannah, Georgia Visitors

Savannah Morning News, Ga.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News

May 29, 2009--A partnership between the Savannah Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and locally owned and operated BlueFocus Media LLC will provide tourists with a new tool for navigating the Historic District.

The Savannah Tourist Assistance Portals are 42-inch, touch-screen kiosks that will be placed in high-traffic areas through the city and will serve as virtual tour guides and concierges for visitors.

"As Savannah establishes itself as a true 'destination of choice' among visitors from around the region, nationally, and now internationally, we must continue to develop our product to always provide the best experience possible," said Joseph Marinelli, president of the Savannah Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

"The Savannah TAP kiosks... are a user-friendly way for a guest to find exactly what they are looking for."

The TAP interface was developed to provide visitors user-friendly access to local events, weather, insight into the city's history and culture and -- most importantly -- they will provide up-to-the-minute guides to Savannah's business restaurants and attractions.

For the initial roll-out, five locations have been chosen to provide maximum exposure.

--Bay Street office of the Savannah Area Convention & Visitors Bureau

--Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport

--Savannah International Trade & Convention Center

--City Market

--Savannah City Hall Permanent locations will include:

--River Street Visitor Information Center

--Visitor Information Center on MLK

--Forsyth Park (at new fort construction)

--Ellis Square

The TAP will be advertising-supported and is priced to be affordable to many of the hospitality related small businesses in the area. For information, go to www.savannahtap.com.
