By Susan Jacobson, The Orlando Sentinel, Fla.McClatchy-Tribune Regional News

Jun. 27, 2009--A worker at a hotel in the International Drive tourist corridor drowned this morning, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Nickerson Jean, 21, was assigned to the housekeeping department at International Plaza Resort and Spa, 10100 International Drive, and did not have responsibilites at the pool, investigators said.

A little before 6 a.m., a co-worker who went to clean the pool saw a body in it and jumped in to rescue the person. Someone at the hotel administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation and deputies and firefighters tried as well, but it was too late, said Genevieve Pugh, a spokeswoman for Orange County Fire Rescue.

"There was pretty much nothing we could do for the patient, Pugh said.

Jean was last seen alive in a hotel breezeway doing his job about 2:40 a.m., the Sheriff's Office said. The incident is thought to have been accidental.
