 Christopher Newbery Rejoins Luxury Indian Hotel Group
as General Manager at the Leela Kempinski Mumbai, India

MUMBAI, India, April 24, 2009 – The Leela Palaces, Hotels & Resorts recently appointed Christopher Newbery as General Manager of The Leela Kempinski Mumbai.  A seasoned hotelier with more than two decades of international experience with leading luxury hospitality brands, Newbery returns to The Leela in Mumbai where he directed the hotel’s operations from 1995 to 1997.

Newbery has held senior executive positions at prestigious international hotels for including: Intercontinental Hotels, Kempinski and Hilton.  In China from 1997 to 2004, he served with Intercontinental as General Manager at their signature Crowne Plaza properties in Jinan and Beijing and was also general manager at the Kempinski Beijing Lufthansa Center.  He was General Manager at the Disneyland Paris and Euro Disney from 1991 to 1995.  Prior to that, he was General Manager at the Yaounde Hilton in Cameroon and the Madagascar Hilton.  He also worked for the prestigious London Hilton on Park Lane and the Paris Hilton. Most recently, from 2005 to 2008, he was General Manager and Head of Operations at the Serena Hotel in Kabul.

Having been involved in hotel development, property refurbishments and upgrades and product enhancement, Newbery brings a tremendous knowledge as well as extensive practical expertise to The Leela.

“Christopher is an accomplished hotelier and has led the The Leela Kempinski Mumbai in the past,” said The Leela’s Senior Vice President Rajiv Kaul. “We’re delighted to have him back with us.”

Newbery attended London’s prestigious St. Paul’s School and received his degree from Ealing Technical College.
