|TORONTO (April 29, 2009) -- Carlson Hotels Worldwide
today announced that it has signed franchise or management agreements
for 23 new properties in the first quarter of 2009, including
the Park Inn & Suites Dawson Creek, British Columbia, scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2009. The new hotels and resorts span 14 countries, including 10 Radisson and Radisson Blu properties; six Country Inns & Suites By Carlsonsm properties; and seven Park Inn locations. The company also announced 16 new hotel openings since the start of 2009, adding locations in Germany, France, India, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Brazil, the Czech Republic and the United States. Carlson’s worldwide portfolio currently totals 1,015 hotels with more than 151,000 rooms in 72 countries. Carlson hotel brands also include Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Regent Hotels & Resorts.
“Although the economic downturn has impacted our industry, Carlson Hotels Worldwide brands continue to generate strong activity in 2009 with 23 development agreements signed for future properties and 16 new hotels added to our portfolio,” said Jay Witzel, president and CEO of Carlson Hotels Worldwide. “Other significant global news during the first quarter of 2009 included the name change of Radisson hotels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa from Radisson SAS to Radisson Blu. These properties are operated by The Rezidor Hotel Group.”
Park Inn signed seven new properties in the first quarter of 2009 with locations in Canada, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. The brand also opened four new hotels since the start of the year with locations in Germany, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the Czech Republic.
The Park Inn & Suites Dawson Creek, British Columbia, scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2009, will feature 62 rooms, including seven studio suites and 2 two-room suites. A tourist attraction for many decades, Dawson Creek sits at the start of the Alaska-Canadian (ALCAN) Highway, only three blocks west of the hotel.
Beautifully situated in the area known as Prague 2, the new Park Inn Prague hotel is just a stone's throw away from the river Vltava and Vysehrad Castle. Originally built in 1907, the hotel is a testament to Art Deco design and promises to be the perfect base for both leisure and business travelers. The Park Inn Prague features 210 modern and well-equipped guest rooms, a fitness room, a large conference area and the RBG Bar & Brill that can accommodate up to 140 people.
Additional Park Inn openings in the first quarter include the Park Inn Muscat, Oman; Park Inn Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia; and Park Inn Berlin City West, Germany.
Radisson Hotels & Resorts
Radisson Hotels & Resorts signed four properties in the first quarter of 2009 and opened four new hotels in India, Brazil and the United States.
The 320-room Radisson Plaza Hotel Shenyang Hunnan is scheduled to open in 2012 and will be located in Shenyang’s Central Business District area close to the Shenyang International Exhibition Centre. Shenyang is the economic, cultural and commercial centre of Northeast China and an important industrial base. When completed, this hotel will be part of the upcoming Hunnan New District which is being developed as a key commercial centre in Shenyang city.
The newly opened Radisson Hotel Yuma, Ariz. is a 100 percent non-smoking facility featuring 3,054 square feet of versatile meeting space, a 24-hour Business Center, full-service exercise room, both indoor and outdoor pools and whirlpools and the Market Wine Bar Bistro, a full-service restaurant.
Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts
The Rezidor Hotel Group, Carlson’s primary partner in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, opened a new Radisson Blu property in Paris, France during the first quarter of 2009. Rezidor also signed six new Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts in six countries including Macedonia, Zambia, Angola, Tunisia, Germany and the United Kingdom.
Rezidor opened a boutique hotel in Paris, France in January. The Radisson Blu Le Dokhan’s Hotel, Paris Trocadero is located in a former private residence in the prestigious 16th arrondissement within walking distance of the Arc de Triomphe, the Tour Eiffel and the Palais des Congrès. The 41 rooms and four suites have been styled under the careful eyes of French designer Frédéric Méchiche. The hotel also features a unique elevator which has been created out of a vintage Louis Vuitton wardrobe trunk.
The Radisson Blu Hotel Lusaka is already under development and located in a prestigious commercial district of Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia. It sits adjacent to the Mulungushi International Conference Centre and across the road from the Arcades Shopping and Entertainment Complex. Besides 145 rooms, the property will offer a Rezidor signature restaurant, a bar, five conference and meeting rooms, a ballroom, a pool with bar and sundeck, wellness facilities and a casino.
Country Inns & Suites By Carlson
Country Inns & Suites By Carlson signed six new properties in the first quarter of 2009 with four locations in the United States and two in India. The brand also opened eight hotels in the first quarter including locations in Florida, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Maryland and Indore, India.
The Country Inn & Suites By Carlson, Cleveland Airport, scheduled to open in 2010, will provide 66 well-appointed rooms and offer convenient access to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport with complementary airport shuttle service. The hotel will feature a number of amenities including indoor pool & whirlpool, complimentary deluxe continental breakfast and fitness room, as well as flat screen televisions in all guest rooms.
Opening in March, the Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Baltimore North features 81 guestrooms including standard rooms, studio suites, one bedroom suites, two Whirlpool suites and a 600 square foot 'Home Suite' for extended stays. All rooms and suites feature complimentary wired and wireless high-speed Internet access, hair dryer, 32-inch high definition flat screen plasma television, microwave and refrigerator. The Country Inn & Suites Baltimore North is in close proximity to several popular Baltimore attractions and is only 17.3 miles to Baltimore Washington International Airport.
