November 20, 2008 (Richmond, Va.) -- Shamin Hotels, one of the leading hotel management companies on the East Coast, today announces the opening of two new hotels at Richmond International Airport (RIC); a   Hilton Garden Inn and a Holiday Inn.  These hotels join three other Shamin properties at the airport; a Homewood Suites, a Holiday Inn Express and a Comfort Inn. Shamin Hotels will also open a Hampton Inn at RIC by spring 2009.

Richmond International Airport has seen 34 consecutive months of growth, said Neil Amin, chief executive officer of Shamin Hotels.  Very few cities the size of Richmond can boast of having non-stop flights to 8 of the 10 largest metropolitan areas in the US.  The airport commission has done a wonderful job in creating a first-class terminal and we hope to support the airport and its travelers with high-quality business class hotels.

Shamin Hotels - History

Starting with modest savings, credit card advances, and a recently purchased old motel coming out of bankruptcy, who would have the foresight to see that P.C. Amin would become Central Virginia's largest and fastest growing hotel owner and operator? That is easy: All of the 500 plus associates of Shamin Hotels who have the pleasure of working side by side with P.C. Amin each day.

In 1971, Pramod C. Amin arrived in Richmond by Greyhound bus with $20.00 in his pocket and a degree in civil engineering looking for an engineering job. The native of Baroda, India found his engineering job and had hoped to save enough money to go back home. However, after working for 8 years, he wanted to work for himself. P.C and his brother-in-law B.N. Shah purchased a struggling motel in Lumberton, North Carolina and with vision, high standards of guest service, and sheer hard work and determination a successful company was born. For each hotel along the way, P. C. or his brother-in-law would open and operate the hotel instilling the standards and values of guest service. With that, formula success begot success. Shamin Hotels now has 21 properties in three states with over 1900 rooms in the Richmond area alone. In addition to six Hilton properties, Shamin also has Marriott, Holiday Inn, and Choice brands.

P.C. runs the business with his wife of 29 years, Punam, his son Neil, and nephew Jay Shah. After receiving an M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and working in Mergers and Acquisitions at Goldman Sachs, Neil joined the company as C.E.O. Jay, a graduate of the Hotel School at James Madison University, was Chairman of the North Carolina Hotel & Motel Association and serves on the board of the American Hotel and Lodging Association.

Richmond International Airport welcomes the arrival of the three new Shamin Hotels properties to serve travelers utilizing commercial flight services available from RIC, said airport president and CEO Jon E. Mathiasen, AAE.  The addition of a new-construction Holiday Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, and Hampton Inn offers valuable new hospitality choices for RIC customers traveling to and from the region.

The new 80,886 square foot Hilton Garden Inn stands 5 stories tall and features 130 rooms plus a beautiful 2,365 square foot ballroom divisible by three for smaller meetings. The meeting rooms are named after famous aviators from Richmond who made significant contributions to aviation: Howard Baugh, T. Fleetwood Garner, Kenneth Rowe and Spencer Rice.  The Ballroom is named the Aviator Room.

The Hilton Garden Inn an up-scale, mid priced, focused service hotel that caters to the ambitious and practical traveler, said Elaine Odom, director of sales for Shamin Hotels.  Hilton Garden Inn continually strives to ensure today's busy travelers have everything they need to be productive on the road.  At the Hilton Garden Inn Richmond Airport, we have various size meeting rooms and a large ballroom available for conferences and social events, complete with an experienced catering and banquet staff.
