General Manager Appointments

Paul Tchen Named Opening GM at the Peninsula Hotel in Shanghai



HONG KONG, July 1, 2008 - Mr. Clement K.M. Kwok, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited (HSH), announces the following senior executive appointments: Mr. Paul Tchen as General Manager of The Peninsula Shanghai, effective 1 July 2008; Mr. David Batchelor as General Manager, Operations Planning and Support, effective 25 August 2008; and Mr. Vlad Reyes as General Manager of The Peninsula Manila, effective 18 August 2008.

Mr. Paul Tchen

Mr. Tchen joined HSH in 1991 with The Peninsula Beverly Hills and relocated to Hong Kong in 1992. In subsequent years, he took on various executive positions within the Group and in 2007 he was appointed General Manager, Operations Planning and Support, with responsibilities encompassing Peninsula Merchandising and providing support to upcoming Peninsula hotels.

In his new capacity, Mr. Tchen will be overseeing the launch of the ninth Peninsula hotel in Shanghai, which is due to open in late 2009.

Born in France, Mr. Tchen is an alumnus of The California State Polytechnic University where he was named in 1999 as a Distinguished Alumnus. He was also awarded the prestigious "Young Hotelier of the World Award" in 1996 by the International Hotel Association and Hotels Magazine.

Mr. David Batchelor

Mr. Batchelor is currently General Manager of The Peninsula Manila and will be transferred to Hong Kong to replace Mr. Paul Tchen as General Manager, Operations Planning and Support.

Mr. Batchelor joined the Group in 1994 as Financial Controller of The Peninsula Hong Kong, and was promoted to the position of Resident Manager in 2000. In 2001, he was appointed General Manager of The Peninsula Manila.

An Australian national and a graduate of The University of Adelaide in South Australia, Mr. Batchelor is a member of the Australian Society of CPAs. He possesses extensive experience in the accounting and hospitality industries in Australia, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

Mr. Vlad Reyes

Mr. Reyes will commence his tenure at The Peninsula Manila in mid August 2008, succeeding Mr. David Batchelor as the hotel's General Manager. He is currently General Manager of the Hilton Beijing.

Mr. Reyes has had a long career with Hilton Hotels in the USA and Asia, including General Manager postings to the Maldives, Malaysia and for the past six years, Beijing.

Born and brought up in the Philippines before moving to the USA, Mr. Reyes is a graduate of the Michigan State University where he earned a Masters degree in Business Administration in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, and of University of the Philippines with a Bachelor degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration. He will bring to The Peninsula Manila his strong awareness of the Filipino culture and his vast experience across Asia.
