New Castle Hotels & Resorts Chooses American Hotel & Lodging
Educational Institute for Supervisory Training
.

Orlando, Florida, June 30, 2008 In keeping with New Castle Hotels & Resorts (NCHR) status as a first class hotel operator and proponent of employee training, development and engagement, the company has partnered with the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (EI) to implement the Supervisory Skill Builders program at all its U.S. and Canadian hotels.  New Castle, a Connecticut-based hotel owner and management company will offer supervisors and managers the opportunity to complete the online version of Supervisory Skill Builders, in conjunction with professional mentoring by senior managers.

Supervisory Skill Builders contains nine modules, each featuring an in-depth discussion of tools that will help new hospitality supervisors perform their jobs more effectively. The concepts taught in the workbooks help supervisors meet management objectives for productivity and guest service; gain respect, trust, and support from the employees they supervise; improve communications and performance; and increase employee motivation.

Topics in the nine-workbook series are:

  • You as a Supervisor
  • Conducting Orientation and Training
  • Leadership
  • Handling Problems and Conflict
  • Motivation and Team Building
  • Staffing and Scheduling
  • Improving Employee Performance
  • Effective Communication
  • Time Management
Participants will be able to work on the online modules during business hours, and will meet with their mentors to review the material and discuss how to apply concepts to particular work situations.

As a company, we take pride in our high level of internal promotion, and we believe this new partnership with the AH&LAs Educational Institute will further enhance our ability to develop and reward our team members, said Marian R. Barbieri, New Castles vice president of human resources. We are very excited that more than 160 supervisors and managers have been identified to participate in the Supervisory Skill Builders training tool over the next 12 months.

Completion of EIs Supervisory Skill Builders program prepares supervisors to take the exam for the Certified Hospitality Supervisor (CHS) designation. Professional certification validates an employees knowledge and skills and recognizes and rewards them for their achievements. The CHS is also a solid starting point for developing a career ladder that will lead to future certifications for managers, department heads, and ultimately, general managers.

The Educational Institute is pleased that New Castle has chosen the Supervisory Skill Builders program and CHS certification as a starting point in the professional development of their management staff, said Roy Kennington, CHA, EIs president and COO.
