May 2, 2008 - WARREN COUNTY -- A Foristell man died after falling from a second-floor hotel balcony in Cancun, Mexico, his wife said Thursday. Ronald E. Skeen Sr., 49, and his wife, Darlene, were vacationing with another couple when he fell from a beach hotel balcony Saturday afternoon, she said. The Skeens had flown to Cancun the previous day for a weeklong stay at the Barcelo Tucancun resort on the Yucatan Peninsula to celebrate their friends' 25th wedding anniversary. Skeen said her husband had just awakened from a nap and was standing on a balcony alone. He was talking to other hotel guests, who were standing on the balcony one floor above him, his wife said. When they yelled to some friends at the pool below, he turned his head and fell over the balcony's railing. She said they had had a couple of drinks by the pool earlier in the day but that he was sober when he fell. Her husband was taken to a hospital in Cancun, where he died. Skeen was a superintendent for Manlin Homes and a member of Carpenters Union Local 1987. His passion was boating and fishing, his wife said. "He was a fantastic guy," she said. "He'd never met a stranger." In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, two brothers, a sister, son, two daughters, a stepdaughter, a stepson and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Pitman Funeral Home, 909 Pitman Avenue in Wentzville. The funeral service is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. ----- To see more of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.stltoday.com.
