Jun. 5, 2008 - A Twin Cities restaurant institution is moving.

After more than 20 years at the Hyatt, Manny's Steakhouse will relocate to the soon-to-open W Hotel in the Foshay Tower a few blocks away in downtown Minneapolis.

Manny's, famous for its porterhouse steaks, is slated to open at the same time W debuts, in late July or early August. The steakhouse will be on the main floor, where restaurant Prohibition was originally planned. As a result, the hotel's 27th floor bar will be named Prohibition.

The Manny's team will be in charge of Prohibition as well as the W's catering and room service.

When planning the W at Marquette Avenue and Eighth Street, investor Ralph Burnet was looking for a nationally or internationally known chef. Burnet also runs the chic Chambers Hotel in downtown Minneapolis, which houses Jean-Georges Vongerichten's restaurant, Chambers Kitchen.

"The way it boiled down was when Manny's and Parasole found out (about the hotel), they wanted an opportunity to put their name in the hat," said Burnet/hotel spokeswoman Jacqueline Hanson.

"It was the right chemistry."

Manny's is run by Parasole Restaurant holdings, also behind Muffuletta (St. Paul), Good Earth (Roseville and Edina), Figlio and Chino Latino (Minneapolis), Salut Bar Americain (Edina, and soon, St. Paul) and Pittsburgh Blue (Maple Grove). Parasole has had a busy year. Two weeks ago, the company debuted a second branch of Manny's in Miami. And on June 15, a Salut is slated to

open on Grand Avenue in St. Paul.

Hyatt general manager Randy Thompson said the hotel plans to replace Manny's with another restaurant.
