Owners James and Hayley Baillie Re-define Benchmarks of Luxury Lodging
in Australia with the Opening of Southern Ocean Lodge on
Kangaroo Island in South Australia

ADELAIDE, Australia, March 27, 2008 - The much-anticipated Southern Ocean Lodge, will open this Saturday, March 29th on Kangaroo Island in South Australia. This is South Australia's first true luxury lodge.

Surrounded by natural bush land overlooking a dramatic coastline, Southern Ocean Lodge will redefine benchmarks for luxury travel and sustainable tourism development in Australia.

Home to an abundance of native wildlife, it is no wonder that travelers regard Kangaroo Island as Australia's Galapagos.

Southern Ocean Lodge is sure to be an architectural attraction in it's own right. Local South Australian architect Max Pritchard has created a property that has minimal impact to the delicate coastline. His extensive use of organic materials encourages a true sense of place.

Southern Ocean Lodge is located on the Islands south west coast, the Lodge site adjoins
both the Flinders Chase and Kelly Hill National Parks and is at the heart of the Islands
major attractions.

The Lodge Restaurant will provide guests with a very South Australian culinary adventure. The island is famous for its cheeses, free-range chicken and pure Ligurian honey. Seafood is abundant on the island and will be a feature on the daily changing menu. Kangaroo Island and South Australian wines and beers have been hand selected to compliment the cuisine.

Twenty-one contemporary suites will impart modern luxury in this remote corner of the world. A range of suite styles are available, with the premium Osprey Pavilion offering extra indulgences such as a handcrafted wood bathtub and private outdoor plunge pool with stunning views of Hanson Bay.

The Southern Spa Retreat is an intimate and private oasis of calm set against a dramatic coastal landscape. The spa uses the Dreamtime-inspired Li'tya range of products complimented by local ingredients including Bay of Shoals mineral salts and Australian pink clay.

Guided touring is included in the nightly tariff. Complimentary activities are offered daily and include an encounter with sea lions at sunrise and exploration of nearby Kelly Hill Caves. Private charters are available with renowned tour operator Exceptional Kangaroo Island (http://www.exceptionalkangarooisland.com).

Southern Ocean Lodge is destined to become one of Australia's leading examples of sustainable tourism accommodation. The Southern Ocean Lodge "Environment Fund," created in partnership with the South Australian Government, will help to raise awareness of the fragile ecosystems and will be used for local environmental projects.

Only 1% of the land owned by Southern Ocean Lodge was used for the resort. The rest has been placed under a Heritage Agreement to protect against future development. Extensive water management, ventilation and heating programs for sustainability have also been implemented.
