DOMINICAN REPUBLIC (March 25, 2008) — Bungalows, the Dominican Republic’s newest luxury resort, has named Jaime Basauri as General Manager of the Cofresi Beach property.  Basauri joins Bungalows with more than 19 years experience in the hospitality, food and beverage industries, specializing in the luxury segment.

Basauri was most recently acting General Manager at Sun Village Resort & Spa, the sister property of  Bungalows, and was promoted to General Manager of Maxim Bungalows, effective March 25.

“Jaime’s wealth of experience and attention to detail will bring Maxim Bungalows to a higher level of luxury service,” said Derek Elliott, President and Chief Executive Officer of Elliott™, the parent company of both Sun Village Resort & Spa as well as  Bungalows.  “He will be a great asset in his new role.”

“It is an exciting time to be a part of the  Bungalows team,” Basauri said. “I look forward to providing our guests with an unforgettable experience here in Cofresi Beach.”

Basauri’s industry experience includes posts as Food and Beverage Director with the Royal Haciendas, Riviera Maya; Corporate Food and Beverage Assistant Manager with Royal Resorts, Cancun; General Manager with El Pueblito Hotel in Cancun; and Operations Manager with Blue Parrot Inn, Playa del Carmen. He’s also worked with Sheraton and El Correo Espanol, both in Cancun; La Puerta de Hierro and Hotel Vista Hermosa, both in Cuernavaca, Mexico. He took a yearlong hiatus in 2000 to run his own food and beverage consulting company in Mexico City but missed the day-to-day operations and delved back in.

A decorated executive, he has received accolades for his distinguished participation in: La Fiesta de Playa Mas Grande del Mundo, Cancún, 2006; Organización del Foro Mundial de la OMC, Cancún 2003, Programa de Conservación de la Tortuga Marina, Cancún 2003; and Pacto de Conservación de la Tortuga Marina, Cancún, in 2002 and 2003.

Basauri, who was born and raised in Mexico, began working in the family wine business when he was 11 years old and he transitioned into the hospitality industry a handful of years later.   He holds a diploma in General Management from the American Management Association and from Cornell University.  He and his wife live in the Dominican Republic with their four dogs and he is also a cooking and wine aficionado.
