David Yamada Named General Manager at
The Westin St. John Resort and Villas

St. John, USVI (Feb. 19, 2008)––David Yamada has been appointed general manager at the Westin St. John Resort and Villas effective February 1. Yamada is 17-year veteran of general management and has 35 years of professional experience in the hospitality industry. 
 
Prior to becoming general manager at the Westin St. John, Yamada served for three years as general manager at Renaissance Oklahoma City Hotel and Convention Center, where he lead a cluster sales team selling Renaissance, Courtyard and Residence Inn brands. Past positions also include serving as general manager at Bay Point Marriott Resort in Panama City Beach, FL, where he supervised the resort’s private beach and two championship golf courses and a spa. 
 
Previously, Yamada served as consultant and contractor for the Virgin Islands Hotel and Tourism Association conducting training sessions for high school juniors and seniors to prepare them for a nine week internship program at local hotels and resorts. Yamada served as general manager at the Renaissance Grand Beach Resort in St. Thomas, USVI.
 
A few of Yamada’s professional affiliations include chair and co-founder of St. Thomas/St. John Hospitality Focus Group and vice-chair of United Way Transportation and Hospitality in the Greater Dallas Area. Additionally, Yamada served as commissioner for the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Westin St. John Resort & Villas is set on a crescent-shaped beach on Great Cruz Bay and is surrounded by 47 lush, tropical acres.  The resort offers 174 guest rooms with two Westin Workout rooms, 3 one bedroom suites and 5 townhouses housed in low-lying structures and decorated in delightful island pastel colors.  92 fully equipped vacation villas, many with private waterfall pools, are also available for rent.  Construction has begun on an additional 54 villas to be completed in late 2007 and another 40 in 2009.   There are four dining and entertainment venues, 24-hour room service and seasonal entertainment. The quarter-acre fresh-water swimming pool with a pool bar, two Jacuzzis and a decorative waterfall is the largest in the USVI.  The Spa at The Westin St. John Resort provides facials, body treatments and massage.  Activities abound with six lighted tennis courts, snorkeling, diving, sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, parasailing, fishing, a full-service fitness center, jeep rentals, and hiking in St. John’s extensive Virgin Islands National Park, which covers 2/3 of the island.  Golf is available via ferry on St. Thomas.  The charming port of Cruz Bay and the sleepy town of Coral Bay are nearby.
