Minneapolis, Minn.  (February 20, 2008) - Bill Morrissey, President of Saint Paul-based Morrissey Hospitality Companies (MHC), has announced the appointment of Brian Schmechel to the position of General Manager for The Hotel Minneapolis, 222-room hotel located in the restored Midland Building in downtown Minneapolis. The Hotel Minneapolis is slated to open in August 2008. Brian Schmechel, a twenty-year veteran of the Twin Cities hospitality industry, assumed the General Manager's position at the beginning of February.

"It is a rare privilege to appoint someone with Brian's experience and skills to the position of General Manager," said Bill Morrissey. "Brian is a proven performer with a passion for customer satisfaction that is well-known in the Twin Cities' hospitality industry. Guests at The Hotel Minneapolis will feel and appreciate the exceptional service and quality that Brian provides to every guest, every time."

After serving four years in the United States Marine Corps, Schmechel, a Green Bay, Wisconsin native, began his hospitality industry career in 1987 as a bellman at The Saint Paul Hotel. He was promoted to a sales manager post at The Saint Paul Hotel a year later, and has been assuming steadily increasing responsibilities at leading hotels ever since. Schmechel's experience includes sales management positions at the Holiday Inn West and Marriott Southwest, both in Minneapolis. He also served as the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Doubletree Park Place Hotel in St. Louis Park from 1998-2002. Schmechel currently resides in St. Francis, Minnesota, with his wife, Candi, and daughter, Lauren. This couple also has a son, Kyle, who currently serves in the U.S. Marine Corps.

The Hotel Minneapolis, the product of a partnership between MHC and Hempel Properties, will open in the restored classic elegance of Minneapolis' Midland Building in August 2008. Located at 215 Fourth Street South in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, the hotel will feature 222 guest rooms, each equipped with the hotel's hallmark of cool, efficient technology, including wireless internet service, flat screen TVs, MP3 player docking stations, and remote printing capabilities. Thanks to the hotel's affiliation with Doubletree Hotels, part of the Hilton Family of Brands, guests will also enjoy "Sweet Dreams" beds and warm chocolate chip cookies upon arrival. MHC will manage the day to day operations of the hotel once it is open.
