Hotel Miramar Hong Kong Unveils US$50 Million Renovation Project; Lifestyle Guru
Colin Cowie the Creative Director for the Ballroom Refurbishment Phase

[27th November 2007 Hong Kong]  Amidst an extensive US$50 million renovation of the entire property, the Hotel Miramar Hong Kong today announced the completion of its large-scale Ballroom refurbishment phase. This new venue has already attracted a host of international corporations and organisations holding events there, including the World Health Organisation, Consulate General of Sweden and others.

Our newly refurbished Hotel Miramar Hong Kong is shimmering with stylish new design concepts and upgraded world-class facilities, says general manager Ms Sylvia Chung. This striking new transformation adds a novel touch of chic sophistication, making it the perfect urban setting for global travellers who work and play in Hong Kong.

The renovation of the Ballroom is the first milestone of this mega-project. The total re-design of the Hotel will also include the lobby as well as the ground level all day dining place, deli, lounge and bar, and is scheduled for completion in mid December 2007. Afterward, major renovation will move ahead on all guest rooms and suites, as well as other restaurants and hotel facilities.

Located on the penthouse level of the Hotel Miramar Hong Kong overlooking Kowloon Park and the dynamic city life below, the spacious, pillar-less Ballroom at 2,000 square meter is one of the largest in Hong Kong. Its ideal for regional conventions, meetings, incentives, exhibitions, corporate events, banquets and cocktail receptions for up to 1,000 guests.

The newly renovated Ballroom on the 18th floor overlooking the Kowloon Park is one of the most spectacular in the area offering day and night views of both Kowloon city and HK Island. 18 beautifully crafted Czech crystal chandeliers adorn the tall ceiling. Sophisticated built-in lighting system provides virtually unlimited scene-setting capability to suit any event. To top it off, the hotel offers a choice of over 20 different colour event themes with special table accessories and setups by Colin Cowie, world renowned lifestyle guru. Ideal for weddings and corporate events.

To help capture more of the lucrative and expanding global MICE market and in response to intense competition from Macau, China, Singapore, Malaysia and other Asian countries, the Hotel Miramar Hong Kong has invested US$10 million to transform its Ballroom into a modern high-function venue, which is directed by Colin Cowie, the world-renowned lifestyle guru and event designer for many international Hall of Fame celebrities and royal families. As creative director on this extraordinary project, Cowie is responsible for the entire design. He has focused his energies on creating a captivating sensory experience for each Hotel guest to enjoy.

Under Colin Cowies direction, the Ballroom entrance is now adorned with a vibrant white manifold fins; a stunning visual welcome for guests. There are also eighteen distinctive custom-made chandeliers in four different sizes set against an exquisite silver and grey backdrop. Each comprises thousands of triangular prisms from the Czech Republic with a steel-plated frame formed in multiple layers. A professional team of 20 engineers and craftsmen from the Czech Republic spent over six months to carry out the design and engineering work and a further four weeks in Hong Kong to install the chandeliers. In all, 20 tons of crystal had to be meticulously assembled piece-by-piece to create this artistic masterpiece.

Rich colouration is another key element of Colin Cowies fully integrated ballroom design that is tailor-made to cater for different occasions. Guests can choose from different colours and event themes with specially designed accessories and table settings to create a truly memorable and personalised event. Carefully selected fabrics, various sets of luxurious linens, chair covers, table cloths, flowers and candles are matched with each specific tone to create a consistently elegant ambience.

I always weave a consistent thread of style through everything, and in this case, I wanted to showcase the versatility of a fully-integrated banquet programme, says Cowie.

Moreover, Narumi, the renowned Japanese chinaware manufacturer, has custom-made an exclusive tableware collection for the Hotel Ballroom.

The glamourous atmosphere will be further enhanced with an advanced, state-of-the-art audio-visual system to provide the highest quality sound along with the latest intelligent lighting systems and wireless broadband Internet access.
