Kjell Rognoy Named General Manager of
The Regent Shanghai in China

FT. LAUDERDALE – November 2, 2007 – Kjell Rognoy, a veteran of 27 years in the hospitality industry, has been named general manager of The Regent Shanghai in China.  Rognoy is an accomplished professional with a long track record in management of five-star and luxury hotels in Asia, the Middle East and the United States.

The Regent Shanghai, known for its striking architecture and interior design, is a Shanghai landmark.  The 511-room hotel rises 53 stories over Yan An West Road, providing stunning views of one of China’s most contemporary urban landscapes.  The Regent Shanghai’s leisure facilities are among the city’s best, with an open tennis court, a 98-foot infinity-edged swimming pool, a fully equipped health and fitness center, and a Guerlain Spa.  The hotel is also noted for its fine restaurants, including the signature Shanghai V, O2on2 and Amici.

“We are pleased that Kjell has joined us at The Regent Shanghai. With his vast global experience and accomplishments over the years, we are confident that he will lead the hotel to even greater success in the future,” said Martin Rinck, President and Managing Director, Carlson Hotels Worldwide – Asia Pacific.

Rognoy brings strong luxury hotel experience to his new role. From 2003 to 2007, he served as general manager at the Sheraton Jeddah Hotel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, followed by the JW Marriott in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He also assisted the owners of the JW Marriott, YTL Hotels and Properties, with the opening of the 35-story luxury Ritz Carlton Residences and the Starhill Conference Centre. As hotel manager with Boston Park Plaza Hotel, a Starwood property, Rognoy was instrumental in arranging agreements with the noted Whiskey Blue, Argentinean Steakhouse and McCormick & Schmick restaurants.

Prior to joining The Regent Shanghai, Kjell assisted the owners of the Global Touristic Company with the pre-opening and opening of the Reef Oasis Blue Bay Resort & Spa in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Rognoy, a native of Norway, received a diploma from the Government of Norway with a major in Hotel and Restaurant Management.  He attended a Masters in Business Administration program with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology during his tenure with the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.
