Kirchert Pakonen Development Signs Chef Michael Mina to
Create
the five-star Dining at La Punta Papagayo, Costa Rica
.
PAPAGAYO, Costa Rica (September 26th, 2007) - Kirchert
Pakonen Development, in conjunction with Regent Hotels & Resorts, today
announced an exclusive partnership with acclaimed chef and restaurateur
Michael Mina to create the five-star dining at La Punta Papagayo.
One of several ultra-high-end resorts underway on the breathtaking Gulf
of Papagayo in Costa Rica's Guanacaste Province, the 60-acre La Punta Papagayo
is the first to secure a partnership with a world-renowned chef.
Comprising a hotel, private villas and estate homes, La Punta Papagayo
is scheduled for a 2010 opening.
"It's extremely exciting to break new culinary ground by adapting my cooking to the flavors, ingredients, techniques, and presentations of Costa Rica," said Mina, who currently presides over his namesake restaurant in San Francisco as well as several highly-rated establishments across the U.S. "One of the primary reasons I was attracted to La Punta Papagayo is the developer's commitment to expressing the traditional native culture in the architecture and in the resort experience, and my goal is to extend that same commitment to the cuisine." In keeping with the resort's sweeping views over the Pacific Ocean and the Bay of Papagayo, seafood will heavily influence the menu at La Punta Papagayo. Bocas will be featured prominently at the resort's signature restaurant, allowing guests to enjoy a tantalizing array of Mina's signature creations. To complement the unrivalled luxury of La Punta Papagayo, Mina will oversee a signature fine-dining restaurant as well as consult on all food and beverage services at the resort, including a gourmet market located in the resort's retail village. Residence owners at La Punta Papagayo may opt for Michael Mina to custom design their kitchens; and Mina, an ardent fisherman, will dock a fishing boat at La Punta Papagayo, leading to the fascinating possibility of the world-renowned chef catching as well as preparing menu selections. "We are pleased beyond description to forge this arrangement with Michael Mina," said Kirchert Pakonen principal Blaine Kirchert. "To secure a chef of Michael Mina's caliber has been a key component of our vision for La Punta Papagayo from day one, and having Michael on board goes along way toward transforming that vision into reality." La Punta Papagayo features 150 hotel rooms, 92 villas and 20 estate homes, all designed to provide guests with the ultimate indulgence in comfort, luxury and privacy. Designed by world-renowned architect Ronald Zürcher of Zürcher Arquitectos de Costa Rica, La Punta Papagayo marries traditional Costa Rican architecture with contemporary style to create an enchanting enclave that is rich in both indigenous tradition and world-class sophistication. The resort also features a world-class spa managed by the renowned Blu Spa consultancy. Located only 20 minutes from Liberia International Airport in the northwest region of Costa Rica's dazzling Guanacaste Province, La Punta Papagayo offers breathtaking, panoramic cliffside views of the Gulf of Papagayo, the Bay of Colebra and the Pacific Ocean, lush white sand beaches that are among the most beautiful in the world, and a "backyard" of lush tropical forest. As with every Regent hotel, the property will embrace The Regent Experience SM, a corporate promise to guests of immersion in local culture, luxury for all the senses, attention to detail and highly personalized and anticipatory service.
