Lowe Enterprises Developing and Building a $450 million Terranea Resort
in Rancho Palos Verdes, California; Destination Hotels & Resorts
to Manage the 582 room Resort Set to Open in 2009
LOS ANGELES, Calif. July 16, 2007 Robert J. Lowe, Jr. , president of Lowe Hospitality Group, recently announced that Destination Hotels & Resorts, a Lowe Enterprises affiliate company, will manage the new 102-acre Terranea Resort, a coastal resort in the Los Angeles-area community of Rancho Palos Verdes. The 582-room Mediterranean-style resort is situated upon a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean with expansive views of the surrounding coastline. Lowe Destination Development broke ground on the property this spring and it is scheduled to open in 2009.

Destination Hotels & Resorts is recognized as one of the nations leading hospitality management firms and we are certain that they will provide exceptional management oversight and create an extraordinary guest experience, said Lowe.

The $450 million Terranea Resort will offer guests a number of unique dining options, three pools, a 25,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, a nine-hole executive golf academy and more than 63,000 square feet of state-of-the-art indoor meeting space along the rolling hills of the Pacific coastline. Guests can choose from 582 guest rooms ranging from private bungalows, casitas and villas to upscale hotel rooms and suites, including the 1,800-square-foot Presidential Suite.

Terranea will offer the quintessential California experience with a spectacular ocean setting and a truly authentic destination resort only a short drive from the Los Angeles metro area said Charlie Peck, president and chief operating officer for Destination Hotels & Resorts. With exceptional service, world class amenities, and a diverse selection of luxurious accommodations, Terranea will establish itself as a classic seaside resort.

The resort will offer a variety of food and beverage options including a signature restaurant overlooking the Pacific with dramatic views of the California coastline.  Casual and fine dining options also include a three-meal-a-day restaurant, light fare at the spa and the cliff-side bar.

The oceanfront spa at Terranea will be an unparalleled, 25,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility with 24 treatment rooms offering customized wellness programs along with separate mens and womens indoor and outdoor relaxation areas and a 5,000-square-foot fitness center with yoga facilities.  It also will offer a separate, private entrance for special groups or guests seeking additional privacy and comfort.

Three swimming pools will be available for guests including the main 5,000-square-foot pool that will feature a water slide and childrens play area.  Another pool will be located along the ocean bluff and feature cabanas for privacy.  The resort also will offer an adult-only pool.

In addition, Terranea will offer an executive, nine-hole golf course academy and training facility, boutique retail, a business center and full-service concierge services and an extensive trail system with a 2.2 acre bluff top park.

Conveniently located 15 miles south of Los Angeles International Airport, Terranea is expected to be a haven for leisure travelers, as well as a popular choice for social group, meeting and incentive functions.  Terranea will offer more than 63,000 square feet of state-of-the-art indoor meeting and event space including an 18,000-square-foot grand ballroom, two junior ballrooms, 19 breakout rooms and three board rooms, as well as expansive outdoor venues offering breathtaking ocean views.

Terranea Resort is inspired by the rich history of explorers who first discovered the Southern California coastline in the 1700s.  This legacy of discovery and exploration will be alive throughout Terranea as guests experience the 102-acre resort nestled among rolling hills and alongside majestic cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  The name Terranea was created to reflect the Mediterranean nature of the resorts coastal setting.  These Mediterranean influences are found throughout the resort with its architecture and design, climate and the relaxed sophistication that defines the Terranea lifestyle experience.

The resort resembles a classic Mediterranean estate that was built over time with distinctive characteristics marking each phase of creation.  It slowly reveals itself as guests near the main hotel building surrounded by lush gardens and dramatic tree-lined drives.  Mediterranean influences are noted throughout the propertys design with custom encaustic tiles in the entryway and lobby of the main hotel.  Each guest room exudes the warmth and spirit of the coastal setting with warm tones, rich woods and sumptuous furnishings.  With a casual elegance integrating the ocean and the natural setting, all rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art audio and visual technology and offer a full complement of luxury amenities.

We have assembled a creative team to integrate these classic influences into the distinctive services and programs that will be offered at Terranea, said Peck. When the resort opens in 2009, our guests will be treated to signature services that will truly define the authentic Terranea experience.

The development plan for Terranea also incorporates environmentally sensitive programs including the creation of 14 acres of habitat, a landscaping program using non-invasive native plants and a sophisticated water management plan featuring vegetated open channels known as bioswales to clean water run-off before it flows into the ocean.  The property provides the public with access to an extensive network of trails within and outside the resort, numerous public parks and lookout points along the coast.

Terranea is being developed by Lowe Enterprises affiliate, Lowe Destination Development.  Hill Glazier Architects designed the property and Turner Construction is the general contractor.
