Wentworth By the Sea Hotel & Spa, New Castle, New Hampshire
Named Marriott Full-Service Hotel of the Year
.
New Castle NH (May 1, 2007) -- The historic Wentworth By the Sea, A Marriott Hotel & Spa in New Castle (Portsmouth), New Hampshire was named Marriott Hotel of the Year at the recent General Managers Conference in San Francisco. Wentworth By the Sea was selected from the group of all 343 full-service Marriott hotels in North America on the basis of customer service and financial performance.

The guest service component underscores the hotel's ongoing commitment to achieving the highest possible scores in the Marriott guest satisfaction survey program. Having achieved the highest score in the nation in the previous rankings for its dining experience, Wentworth is about to be recognized again for high scores in the Marriott Eastern Region in this category, as well as "Overall Breakfast," "Restaurant Dining Experience," "Overall Event Satisfaction," "Event Food & Beverage" and "Problem Resolution."

"We have worked very hard since reopening to ensure that this hotel's legacy is continued in the years to come," said Ron Rockelein, General Manager of Wentworth By the Sea. "So an award of this magnitude is a rewarding demonstration to them that all their hard work pays off."

Wentworth By the Sea Marriott Hotel & Spa reopened in June 2003 following a $30 million restoration. Once threatened with demolition and placed on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's "Most Endangered Sites" list, the hotel is now showcased by the National Trust as a preservation success story and received its President's Award in 2005 and Honor Award in 2006.

Wentworth's historical significance as the site where the Russian and Japanese diplomats stayed for thirty days in 1905 while negotiating the Treaty of Portsmouth is echoed today in the hospitality extended to meeting planners and conference attendees, as well as to business and leisure travelers. In 1905 the hotel was chosen by President Theodore Roosevelt (who won the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts) and his State Department as a seaside resort that offered comfort, security and convenience to the delegates. Dozens of telegraph lines from the hotel allowed for efficient communication for the diplomatic entourages and the media. Today, Wentworth By the Sea affords conferences that same top level blend, with state of the art AV capabilities, wireless Internet connectivity and Marriott Certified Meeting Professional conference service staff who are attuned to the individual needs of conferees. Already the hotel is figuring prominently as the venue for Presidential candidates seeking opportunities to campaign among Seacoast voters in New Hampshire's "First in the Nation" primary.

Located in the scenic community of New Castle, NH and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the Wentworth by the Sea Marriott Hotel & Spa incorporates 161 guestrooms and suites (including two bi-level suites and one tri-level suite in the hotel's original Victorian turret towers and the extended-stay Little Harbor Marina Suites), most with ocean or harbor views. Wentworth By the Sea Hotel & Spa can accommodate meetings of up to 300 attendees. With 11,500 square feet of flexible function space, the hotel has incorporated the best of its historic features with state of the art communications and life safety technologies. The original ballroom which welcomed heads of state as well as entertainment headliners such as Cab Calloway's Big Band, is now the Grand Ballroom.. The main conference facilities are located in the west wing of the hotel overlook the ocean.

The hotel's full-service amenities include the Wentworth Dining Room, Roosevelt's Lounge, the seasonal Latitudes bistro overlooking the marina, and the 8,500 sq. fit Spa wing with five full-service Spa treatment rooms, a fitness room and indoor pool. The hotel has two outdoor pools - one in the historic gardens and a gated pool for the use of Little Harbor Marina Suites guests. Guests seeking championship golf opportunities at the hotel are afforded guest privileges at the neighboring, members-only Wentworth By the Sea Country Club.

Wentworth By the Sea is a member of the National Trust's Historic Hotels program and participates fully in the Marriot Hotels Rewards Program. Both the hotel and the Wentworth Dining Room maintain AAA Four Diamond ratings. For more information, call 603-422-7322 or visit www.wentworth.com
