Oliver Nihart-Arango Named 2007 Certified Hospitality
Technology Professional (CHTP) of the Year 
AUSTIN, TEXAS (May 17, 2007) � Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®) will honor Oliver Nihart-Arango, CHTP, as the 2007 Certified Hospitality Technology Professional (CHTP) of the Year at HITEC�s Opening Session on Tuesday, June 26 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. In its 10th year, the CHTP of the Year award recognizes the person who scored the highest in a given year on the CHTP exam.
 
Oliver Nihart-Arango, CHTP Nihart-Arango is currently a systems specialist for Carlson Companies in Minneapolis, Minn., focusing on Latin American hotels. He has degrees in political science, spanish and network administration from Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota. His previous work included freelance translation for the Mexican government. Nihart-Arango is also the president of Oaxaca Streetchildren Grassroots, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children receive an education in Mexico. 

Developed jointly by HFTP and the Educational Institute (EI) of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the CHTP designation elevates the professionalism of both the recipient and the industry by helping to set standards for the field. The CHTP exam was first given in 1994 at HITEC in Dallas, Texas. Since then, more than 250 professionals have earned the CHTP designation representing countries from North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

HFTP and EI recently launched the CHTP exam online, providing access to the exam from any computer and instant e-mail results. The 250-question exam includes new questions regarding emerging hospitality technologies. Other exam questions cover: technology concepts; specific hotel systems (i.e. PMS); systems rooted in other industries but also used in the hospitality sector (i.e. the Internet); and general hotel management practices. 

HFTP also administers the examination and awards the Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE), which is recognized as THE symbol of achievement in the profession of hospitality accounting. It will be available online soon.

CHTP Online Exam at HITEC

The CHTP certification exam will be available online at HITEC 2007. Review sessions for the CHTP and CHAE are scheduled for June 25 at 8 a.m. and the exams for the CHTP and the CHAE are scheduled for June 25 at 1 p.m., both at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. To register for the CHTP and CHAE exams, fill out the CHTP application or the CHAE application found on the HFTP web site and turn in to the HFTP certification liaison by May 25.
