The Historic La Posada Hotel  in Laredo, Texas
Completes Extensive $15 million Makeover

LAREDO, Texas, May 31, 2007 - The historic, resort-like La Posada Hotel on the banks of the Rio Grande in Laredo, Texas has completed an extensive $15 million makeover that combines the hotel's historic Spanish influence and colonial architecture with new floor-to-ceiling renovations. While the original 1916 facade remains, the hotel's reconstruction runs the gamut from a newly-designed lobby and Spanish contemporary public spaces including el Cafe restaurant, the award-winning Tesoro Club and the Tack Room Bar & Grill, to luxurious and beautifully-restored guestrooms with elegant interiors, spectacular courtyards and grounds, and updated technology throughout.

"La Posada has a long and successful history, and with the renovations, we have preserved the old and brought in the new in a very exciting way," said Gene Belmares, Director of Sales & Marketing. "As the only full-service property in Laredo, we look forward to continuing to be the hotel of choice and to meeting the needs of the area's growing number of business and leisure travelers ... and to offer old world charm and comfortable style, all at the excellent value that they appreciate."

La Posada was originally home to Laredo's first high school, built in 1916. After 46 years of service, the legendary hotel still bustles with activity, playing host to numerous famous entertainers performing at the Laredo Entertainment Center, charitable events and national political fundraisers. La Posada remains the area's premier meeting location for a veritable 'who's who' of famous visitors to South Texas, boasting an authentic Spanish contemporary design, furniture by local artisans, fine artwork, and luxurious finishes throughout.

With today's travel trend of combining business with leisure, La Posada provides the homelike-feel, resort setting, contemporary design, up-to-date technology, business services, and great food that travelers require for a comfortable balance of both. La Posada's 206 spacious guestrooms - including 58 suites and 22 Concierge Club rooms - are located in two historic buildings, and guest balconies and public spaces give way to views of lush courtyards and the Rio Grande. In addition, both the hotel and surrounding locale provide myriad recreational, sports and cultural activities.

"The renovations celebrate the hotel's historic roots and charm and also add a contemporary feel, with upgrades and enhancements to give busy travelers time for business or recreational activities, and also time for themselves," added Belmares. "Our guests can be comfortable and also get their work done."

Highlights of the renovations include:

  • Stained glass, wood and marble lobby, with Spanish-influenced contemporary furnishings and a palette of rich, bold colors.
  • All-new, luxurious guestrooms and corridors, appointed with elegant decor, granite and marble finishes, and all the modern comforts and conveniences such as triple-sheeted bedding, oversized work desks and superior lighting.
  • All-tiled and marble bathrooms with spa-type amenities.
  • Complimentary wired and wireless high speed internet access.
  • Refrigerators in all rooms.
  • A new full-service 24-hour complimentary business center with ergonomic workstations.
  • A spacious, new and fully-equipped fitness center with treadmills, elliptical machines, Stairmasters, free weights and Universal(R) equipment.
  • Two renovated swimming pools (one heated) with the resort's famous Bougainvillea swim-up bar in the West courtyard pool.
  • Lushly landscaped courtyards and grounds.
  • More than 15,000 square feet of flexible meeting space for business and social events, and a full range of professional meeting and event planning services.
Three bars and three full-service restaurants include: el Cafe, featuring the Lobby Bar and a variety of lunch buffet specials during the week; the Tesoro Club, with live entertainment on the weekends, Sunday Champagne Brunch and dinner, and the freestanding Tack Room Bar & Grill, long known as Southwest Texas' best steakhouse. The culinary team serves up sumptuous American steaks, seafood, and authentic TexMex cuisine cooked from scratch, complete with homemade chips. Room service is available and there is complimentary coffee service daily.

Numerous sporting experiences and recreational activities are available. In addition to day-rate privileges at nearby Laredo Country Club for golf and tennis, La Posada is within walking distance of parks, jogging trails and shopping with more than 40 stores. The Republic of the Rio Grande Museum is located on the hotel property, and the San Agustin Cathedral is immediately adjacent. The Laredo Center for the Arts is nearby, and Casa Blanca Lake and boating activities are four miles away.

La Posada is located at 1000 Zaragoza Street in the historic district of downtown Laredo and within easy walking distance of the Mexico border. Complimentary airport shuttle service and covered on-site parking are available.
