April 19, 2007 - The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the largest UGC-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong in terms of student numbers.  The School of Hotel and Tourism Management is Asia�s leading university-level provider of hospitality and tourism education with 1,600 students at undergraduate, masters and PhD levels and 47 faculty members from 17 countries.  According to the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research (August 2005 issue), the School was rated among the world�s top four academic institutions in hospitality and tourism based on research and scholarly activities.  Please visit the website at http://www.polyu.edu.hk/htm/ for more information about the School. 

Several positions are available, including:

(1)  Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Hotel / Lodging Management and Operations (several posts)
(2)  Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Hospitality Human Resources Management (several posts)
(3)  Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor / Lecturer in Foodservice Management (several posts)
(4)  Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor / Lecturer in Airline and Aviation Services Management
(5)  Professor / Associate Professor in Convention and Events Management

The appointees will be required to 

(a) teach at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels; 
(b) initiate, lead and participate in research activities; and 
(c) undertake academic administration duties. 

Appointees at Associate Professor/Professor level will be required to take active leadership role.

Applicants should 

(a) have a PhD degree in a related discipline; 
(b) have substantial university teaching experience and an excellent portfolio of teaching in respective areas; 
(c) have substantial relevant managerial experience in the hospitality and/or tourism industry; 
(d) demonstrate academic leadership in hospitality and tourism through research, awards of research grants, scholarship and high level consultancy in respective areas; 
(e) have a track record of publication in internationally recognised journals in hospitality, tourism and related fields and/or books; and 
(f) have successful experience in research funding applications.

Preference will be given to those with a strong research orientation, the potential to publish in high quality scholarly journals and a good teaching record.  Applicants with extensive experience and a high level of achievement may be considered for Associate Professor/Professor posts.  Those without a PhD degree but with a relevant master�s degree and strong industry and teaching credentials may be considered for Lecturer posts. 

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

Salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointments will be made on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.  Remuneration package will be highly competitive.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
