Named as Finalists for the Annual Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design . David Rockwell to be Honored as �Designer of the Year� WHITE PLAINS, NY, August 21, 2006�Twenty hospitality properties, featuring innovative themes and compelling design elements, have been named as finalists for the 26th annual Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design. The finalists were selected from 150 submissions representing 76 design firms and properties in 19 countries, making this year�s Awards the most diverse and competitive to date. The finalists and winners � as well as the �Designer of the Year� � will be honored at the Gold Key Awards Breakfast, held during the 91st annual International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show® (IH/M&RS), on Monday, November 13, 2006, 7:30 � 9:30 am, at New York City�s Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Guest Room�The finalists for this year�s Gold Key Awards represent cutting-edge design firms from around the world that are setting trends in hospitality design,� said Christian Falkenberg, show manager. �We were pleased to see 19 countries participate this year, demonstrating the worldwide significance of these prestigious Awards.� Countries represented among the 150 submissions were Canada, China, England, Finland, France, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Turks and Caicos, United Arab Emirates and the United States. Judges for the 2006 Gold Key Awards were Carol Rusche Bentel, Bentel & Bentel; John Bricker, Gensler; Sam Kapadia, Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel; Tony May, Tony May Group, San Domenico New York; and Ellis O�Connor, The Peninsula New York. Finalists were selected based on aesthetic appeal, practicality and functionality of design. Gold Key Awards sponsors HOTELS and Interior Design magazines will present David Rockwell with the �Designer of the Year� distinction during the breakfast ceremony. Rockwell was selected for this honor based on his dedication and significant contributions to the field of hospitality design. His work is seen in world class hotels such as the W New York, Art�otel in London and the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut, and at world-renown restaurants, bars and clubs, such as New York City�s Monkey Bar, Nobu, Sushi-Zen, Ruby Foo�s and Serafina. In addition, NEWH, Inc., the Hospitality Industry Network will present the Icon of Industry Award to Maya Romanoff, artist, inventor and director of the Maya Romanoff Corporation, and leading creator of innovative wall covering and surfacing materials impacting the world of design. A $5,000 scholarship will be presented in his name to an exemplary student specializing in the hospitality industry.
